Could not be more excited about this new addition to my ! A 1980s dresser that is perfectly new again with modern styling and tons of capacity to hold so much fabric in a way that’s easy to see and access.
Love it!!
New Skills
Oh man!! So many to chose from. It seems I’m constantly learning (and relearning!)!
But this was a cool project with lots of new skills! Most notably, curves and foundation paper piecing! Super fun!

Quilts in the Wild
Quilts in the Wild can be counted amount the reasons I quilt! I LOVE taking quilts out in search of amazing photo ops.
This is one of my very favorite outings from the last year.
Marc and I took a favorite quilt up to
When we arrived in the early morning, the weather was dry but rain was forecast midday. The trailhead was attended by a park employee who started to warn us of the risk of flash flooding but then stopped and looked at Marc’s giant backpack and said instead, “I can see you’re prepared for anything! Have a good hike!” Little did he know that the entire pack was full of a big quilt!! 😹😹😹
We had an absolutely beautiful day moving through the river and slot canyons and showering under the falls (hoping a log wouldn’t clunk us on the head).
Memories I will never forget! And we really only made a priority of going on this hike to take the quilt out!
So! Much! Fun!
Thanks to for always being up for darn near anything! Thanks to for creating the reason to share.
Favorite Quilt
My favorite quilt (other than Falling Leaves from my mom) is often the next quilt I plan to make. This will be a queen-sized quilt with a charcoal background and triangles of a Riley Blake Designs group of fabrics called Gingham Gardens. The pattern is a free Moda pattern called Pyramids. (I’ve modified the pattern for the dimensions I want).
Mr Kitty is perplexed that it isn’t yet finished. Bu how can I start when he looks so comfy?
Favorite Step
Hmm. My favorite step of making a quilt?
I could not pick one step.
In fact I think my favorite part is that it takes all the parts to bring the whole together. To me, it’s like building a house. Complex and rewarding. Starts with dreaming, designing, and choosing materials. Followed by laying the foundation, framing, and finishing.
It comes together through all the small, mundane, and meditative actions carried out with steady persistence.
Very satisfying!
What Was I Thinking
I love all the fabric I’ve ever brought home. Some of it just takes longer to find the right project!
This fabric is a large scale print and will probably become a garment. Skirt? Shortalls? Pajama pants? Jodhpurs? Gauchos? Oooo, Or maybe a quilt coat lining!! Which would you make?
Workshop/Class Love
I have loved lots of quilting workshops! The most recent was at with
So much fun to play with putting in TWO zippers and leaving class with a finished, functional and beautiful bag!!
Have also loved other classes this year!
Free motion quilting class with offered by .
And two classes taught by at my favorite quilt shop ever !
Quilts of Significance
Mmmm! This is the most treasured quilt that belongs to me. Made by my mom and blanket stitched by her and her very dear departed sister Wanda. It was started long ago and finished last year so the black stitching tells its own story.
I was thrilled and surprised when my mom gave me this for Christmas!
I will treasure it forever!

Favorite Quilting Book
I have a pretty hardy collection of quilt books but these are a few of my very favorites.
I absolutely LOVE Big Stitch Quilting by Carolyn Forster. It is packed with great tips and a variety of projects, perfect for sharing with my little quilty friends.
I also ADORE Simple Geometric Quilting by Laura Preston. I love every project!
And of course Walk and Walk 2.0 by Jacquie Gering! Incredible inspiration for walking foot quilting and clever techniques to improve efficiency. Love love love!
Best Tip Ever

General surgeon
Fussing with perfection leads to frustration and rarely markedly improves the end result. Do your best and then keep moving forward.
PS This block is miles from perfect. But in the finished quilt, who would notice?!
Recent finish
Getting in on the fun! Finished this top just before Christmas and now it’s off at the longarmer!
Thanks again for the reason to share!
Sewing friends
In addition to my seeet sewing peeps, these guys are my regular sewing companions! Holger, Lothar, Rosie and Mr. Kitty.
Thanks for

Pressing Matters
Mmmm! Pressing! I love it! Meditative and productive at the same time.
I like a cordless iron best for piecing and my big Oliso for larger jobs. And of course live a good Taylor’s clapper!
Thanks
Quilt back
Now is as good a time as any to reveal that I have a verging-on-pathological-addiction to pattern. Though I sometimes choose solids for a quilt top, the back will always have pattern and lots of it!!
My has a back that reminded me of my Aunt Vi’s sofa from 1975. Mmmmm! Who’s with me?? 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for the reason to share!
NOT MY WORK
Coveted Quilt
I don’t seem to covet quilts I’ve given away but I regularly lust after those made by others. A recent example is this entry from Sarah Ruiz] in the Modern Traditionalism category.
I love absolutely everything about it!
Simple geometric shapes artfully composed
Warm blue color palate
Magenta binding
Hand quilting
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Sarah Ruiz] for creating it. And thanks for creating the reason to share a beloved favorite.

Scrappy Finish
Scraps from a jelly roll chosen to coordinate with my favorite Robert Kaufmann fabric to honor year of the tiger! Bag is a gift for my 19 year old college student.
Lesson Learned
Never give up on what matters.
and
Sometimes it takes time to understand the way through!
I’ll share the rest of the story on the 25th (Whoops!).
Quilting origin
My mom was a garment sewist when I was a kid and that’s what I learned first.
She became a quilter after I left for college and though she’s my major inspiration now, she wasn’t the first quilter to pique my interest.
That person was Carole. She quilted and gave me a mini house blocks project one year for Christmas. It introduced me to sewing in a new way and lead to my first quilt, as well as this Amish baby blanket started around the same time.

Why do you quilt?
I quilt (and sew) to be in connection!
* with my mom while sewing
* with my kids who I imagine will enjoy using the things I make for them for years to come
* with my quilty and sewing friends who so generously share their craft and support for one another

Creatives Hands
These are some of my favorite creative hands. I often sew with my mom who’s wicked inspiring! And on extra special days, we get to share the fun with the other creative cuties pictured here. Anders is master of machine embroidery. Signe is one of the most creative people I know and can make magic in all media including quilting. Inga is most like me, a budding technician! Love them all!

Guilts on beds
My when it was hot off the “presses”!
thanks
My first quilt!
Purchased the fabric in 1990 in St Paul, MN, at a quilt shop that no longer exists (in St Anthony Park behind the old Muffuletta restaurant).
I don’t recall there being any “coordinates” just a lavish selection of individual fabrics pulled together with a help of a patient shop owner. I loved (and still love!) the floral of the outer border which is also the backing. It’s far from perfect but special to me nonetheless.
Inaugural post to celebrate ! Thanks for helping quilty people connect!
I’m a pediatrician in Bozeman Montana and I’ve been around about as long as Walt Disney World, National Public Radio, Uno, Malibu Barbie, and Laffy Taffy which are all favorites of mine!
My most amazing mama taught me to sew starting when I was 7 or 8 years old (making clothes and blankies for dolls and Barbie naturally).
I started my first quilt in 1989 and finished it in 2021. (There were reasons, people). I’ve completed lots of other projects in between and learned a lot sitting at the sewing machine:
*I have a perfectionistic streak
*I take great pleasure in a well finished garment seam (flat-felled are my favorite!)
*Fabric is as good as candy
*Constructing fabric creations makes my mathy brain happy (except on the rare occasions when it causes a murderous rage)
*Perfect is the enemy of good
*But also, seam ripping can be therapeutic so…
When I’m not working or sewing, I enjoy dreaming of finding the morel mushroom mother-load, and teaching Mindful Self-Compassion to other perfectionists!
So happy to meet you!
