Florida Flamingos: A Picture-Perfect Moment
Congratulations to Susan Bokos on the recent sale of this beautiful print!
There’s something magical about spotting flamingos in the wild, and this photo captures that magic perfectly. In Florida, where vibrant sunsets meet lush wetlands, flamingos stand out with their stunning pink feathers, gracefully balancing on one leg.
This particular shot of two flamingos in Florida is a true work of art. Their elegant poses, vivid colors, and the serene backdrop all come together to create a scene that feels almost otherworldly. It’s a reminder of the natural beauty that thrives in Florida’s unique ecosystems.
CRITIQUE CORNER WITH JANET FLICKINGER AND DAWN GERARDOT
Come and join the fun at Island Gallery and Studios for these free interactive discussion sessions on what makes a good piece of art. For example, are you stuck in your current painting? Are you having trouble deciding whether or not it’s finished? Is it missing something, but you don’t know exactly what? We have possible answers for you! We will look at basic design elements, such as balance, space, color, distribution, and value. Come join a few of our gallery members as we introduce you to our critique corner. We invite you to just come and listen or bring your paintings, particularly those that might have a problem, and will help you work through the issues. It’s a wonderful learning experience and interesting conversation, full of insight and inspiration. Each session will address different issues, so come to one session or come to all for something a little different each time. Take advantage of this opportunity to add to your art bucket. See you there!

Congratulations to Kathy Storm on the sale of “Grace” at the gallery. What a beautiful shot!
“I was on an early morning walk at Robinson Preserve when a Great Egret flew in and landed in the water in front of me. Later when I looked at the picture, I was reminded of ballerinas or ice skaters with their graceful and elegant movements, and the title immediately came to me, “Grace.”
“Zelda” sold this month at the Gallery. $240.00. 13x13 Colored pencil, double matted and framed. Congratulations to member artist Lynn Coppinger!
Zebras are fascinating animals with distinct black-and-white striped coats, but did you know that each zebra’s stripe pattern is unique, like a fingerprint? These patterns help zebras with camouflage through a phenomenon called “motion dazzle,” making it harder for predators to single out an individual zebra in a group.
Don’t forget to make time to view our August Exhibit! Wonderful work by all our member artists depicting the beauty of Anna Maria Island 🏝️

2024 ‘Artist’ (web definition): A person who is capable of conceptualizing an emotion, idea or moment, or of more value, someone who
can express themselves using their imagination. There are many definitions of “art”, but I like this succinct version: Art is
something that happens when your creativity takes a solid form. When you come to the Island Gallery and Studios you will experience and enjoy many different forms of art, and because this Gallery is artist-owned and operated, you have the opportunity to meet the artists.
Congratulations to Paige Cooper of Bradenton, Florida! She is our July winner of a $25 gift certificate! There is still time for you to be a winner too. Stop into the Gallery and scan the QR code to enter.
Anna Maria Island Life: Through the Eyes of the Artists This month, the Feature Wall in the Gallery is a group exhibit of the artists’ interpretation and/or realistic perception of AMI. Come and pick out
your favorite!
NEW! Critique Corner is Beginning! This will be an ongoing monthly event on the last Saturday of every month. Come and join the group for artist talks, ideas, discussions and lots of social interaction with others with the same interests. Bring your
own finished or “in the making” artwork for a professional critique. Whether you are a browser, a shopper, a budding artist, a professional artist, or an art appreciator, there is always something for you at the
Island Gallery and Studios.

“It had long since come to my attention, that people of accomplishment rarely sat
back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things”.—
