This was the 6th Walleye that Nate caught while testing the new battery powered Diawa 80XD Underspin Reel developed by MPOWR Fishing LLC. While originally thought to be a great reel for Crappies, Sunfish, Perch and so forth, this reel greatly exceeded our expectation in how well it handled these Walleyes that ranged up to nineteen and a half inches. The simple trigger activation is perfect for individuals who suffered a stroke on their right side, persons with reduced dexterity from arthritis and individuals with early to mid ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease.

Martin Griffin, retired school superintendent from Orrick, MO was the first to test the new battery powered MPOWR Fishing reel, the Shimano SYNCOPATE 4000FG open face spinning reel. Martin was fishing Coles Lake in Ontario, Canada in late May 2023. He couldn't get someone to shoot a video, so he did a "selfie" video. The high point was that he caught over 700 Walleyes during the five days of fishing and all components of the new reel worked perfectly. He stated that this new reel was a considerable improvement over our original MPOWR Reel that he tested on Coles Lake a year earlier.

Unbeknownst to me, he put together quite a video showing some of the highlights of the MPOWR FISHING system. He was using our original MPOWR open face reel. This reel was introduced in 2014. The company manufacturing this reel is no longer in business. The successor to this reel, to be introduced in late 2023 or early 2024, will be the Shimano SYNCOPATE 4000FG open face spinning reel.

Dr Roland Kehr, the founder of MPOWR FISHING LLC and co-developer of the line of MPOWR battery powered fishing reels and his son, tested the latest addition, the Diawa Underspin 80XD trigger closed face reel on Fletcher Lake, Ontario in early August 2022.
The ease of use with a trigger closed face reel would be especially beneficial for individuals having dexterity difficulties with an open face spinning reel. Persons suffering from arthritis would be one such group.
Dr. Kehr had Crappies, Sunfish, Bluegills, Perch and Bream as the primary fish species for this reel. It was an unexpected surprise when Nate, who is restricted to using only his right hand and arm (owing to Cerebral Palsy), proceeded to land five Walleyes in a row, measuring eighteen to nineteen and a half inches in length.
The video shows the difficulty in holding up this nineteen inch Walleye with one arm. On our return to Fletcher Lake Lodge, Kevin Thompson, the owner's son, remarked that over the years a number of guests have fished and boated Walleyes, using smaller closed face reel.
