Share these Crisis Lines and Donation Sites to help people impacted by Hurrican Ian.
Being located in Florida, it has been hard news to know that some people's homes and lives have been devastatingly affected by Hurricane Ian. Even though we are a small practice, we would like to do our part and share some crisis lines and places to donate to those in South Central and South Florida.
We are hoping for the best to those were were impacted. ❤️

What is our approach to therapy?
Therapy can be a scary concept. You're talking to someone new, not to mention relaying difficult topics, and then the expectation that you'll achieve your goals. We're here to help you reach your goals and to have the motivation to do so.
We have the privilege to experience your growth and to be in your life. It's not the other way around. As therapists, we want to see you succeed and become confident in what you are.

Knowing helplines, text lines, and lifelines are important when someone is in crisis or needs additional help. Sometimes all it takes it to know you have support to help you feel better.
Mental Health Matters. People need to know that we are there for them and are willing to help.

Emotional Boundaries are boundaries to separate your feelings, opinions, and beliefs from another (or this can partner's/partners') feelings.
Often times if these boundaries are violated there are feelings of resentment, annoyance, guilt, shame, and nervousness associated to the person overstepping the boundaries.
Relationship therapy (and even family therapy) can help identify these and if emotional boundaries are needed.
Setting boundaries can be hard too, but talking with a professional can help you find confidence or find ways to meet your partner in the middle.

Subscriptions are another payment option for those who cannot afford out of pocket prices. Each therapy practice is different and willing to accommodate different subscriptions to meet their clients financial boundaries.
Of course if a practice has a specialty, it is not unusual to find that their prices are higher. Most therapists are willing to lessen their session prices if you'll see them for a longer period of time (to show that you, your partner, or family are committed).
Let us know if you have any questions!

Therapy shouldn't break your wallet.
A lot of therapy practices offer sliding scale. They evaluate what your monthly income is and if you have any outstanding bills or dependents. Therapists want to help you, and they understood that money can be an issue. Sliding scales and subscriptions are sometimes the solution to bridge that financial gap.
Sometimes asking what can work within your own budget is also a good question to present.
Therapy doesn't have to be out of budget.

Validating your partner in their emotions is a key step towards open communication. A relationship is about being a team, and sometimes a person needs to know that their hardships are okay and that they have support.
Validation can be hard too. Sometimes you don't agree with your partner either on beliefs or opinions, but it doesn't mean you tell them they are wrong in how they feel. Relationships are two (or more!) people working together and cooperating in their differences.
Here are some examples of what validation is.
Self love is complicated. There are so many inner battles to overcome, and there can be people who put doubt into the process too. One thing to know, though, is that you can still love yourself and be a work in progress.
You don't have to stop loving yourself just because you haven't checked a few boxes. You are still worthy of love.
Remember that you're trying your best!

Relationships have ups and downs, that is a given when you dedicate time with someone. Stress (both good and bad) can put some strain on the relationship however, it's important to understand that honest communication is needed.
Communicating your wants and needs is a must to understand one another, and to listen to their wants and needs too. Their opinions could also be different or they have different needs to be met. This does not mean that they're trying to be mean and it also doesn't warrant rudeness; understanding while communicating is also key.

Boundaries are essential in building relationships with other people. Boundaries are not just for friends or partners, but also family members and work relationships.
Here are a few examples of placing your boundaries. Remember that an upset reaction is on the person, not you. Boundaries are meant to protect, destress, and prioritize yourself.
Also remember that you're trying your best!

What is self-care?
These last few years can seem like a lot for people. We have to remember to focus and take care of ourselves. What is one way that you self care?
Remember that you deserve the time and effort to take care of yourself. It takes confidence to say (and know) when you need help.

You can be happy one day and feel like a simple greeting is too much the next. No one handles grief the same, and that's okay.
The stages of grief take time, and they sometimes piggy back each other at the same time. It can be difficult, especially without a good support system.
At points grief can be complicated. That does not mean to rush the healing process or think that having happy emotions while grieving is wrong. It's not linear.

Come join Romel's workshop on July 23rd at 4pm-6pm. Romel Satiago is a licensed s*x therapist who helps those realize their s*xual needs, their identity, and provides s*x education to clients.
This workshop is about the exploration of s*xual identities and the LGBTQIAA+ for MSM. MSM is Men who have s*x with men. Examples of Non-Gay Identified MSM and the ways in which culture and race impact the growing STI/HIV rates, lack of interventions, stigma and community will be discussed.
One of the high lights would be differentiating between gay men and men who have s*x with men. It is a wonderful opportunity to expand our understandings of s*xuality, identity, and the barriers to care.
We'll see you then!

Self care! What is it?
These last few years can seem like a lot for people. With everyone having to stay home and the frustration of the pandemic, we have to also take care of ourselves. What is one way that you self care?
Remember that you deserve the time and effort to take care of yourself. It takes confidence to say (and know!) when you need help.
Therapy can be scary. From talking to a new person, recognizing trauma responses, maybe even finding out that some experiences need a second or third opinion.
BUT with therapy comes growth. Sometimes it does feel selfish or an overreaction to ask what we want. Sometimes it feels selfish or an overreaction to ask what we need. However, we need to understand that boundaries are what hold us down. We HAVE to ask what we want and need to have those good days.
We have to ask for space. We have to ask for the last cookie after a long day. We have to ask what we want and what we need to function properly.
It's never overreacting to ask for what you want and need.
It's okay to not be okay.
One of the many steps in the therapy journey is to recognize that it is alright to not feel the best.
It is also within the therapists' journey to help you feel okay.
We're all here for you.
You're trying your best.
Starting therapy is hard. Whether you've been thinking about it for weeks, months, or even years. Not to mention the vulnerability, even to a professional, can be intimidating.
That's why therapists, psychiatrists, friends, family, peers say that it takes confidence to see someone. It take confidence to admit that help is wanted and needed. It takes confidence to find someone catered to your needs. And it takes confidence to continue to seek help. We're all brave in our own perspectives, and our journey will continue on that.
It's okay to see a therapist.
