We’ve been busy over here!! The last few months have been primarily focused on family and the foundations of running the farm. Keeping a fifteen acre property with up to ten horses, chickens, dogs, cats and two growing children running is a constant act of balance, compromise and effort.

But it’s worth it.

We welcomed new life this spring, with the birth of Miss Moneypenny’s foal, Peppermint Patty. We also welcomed a new horse to the roster of carriage and lesson horses: Flint. He’s already best buddies with our son.
We said goodbye to Miss Daisy, who is on to her new and wonderful life as a private trail horse.

Now the weather is gorgeous, and it’s time to get refocused on our tours through the countryside around our beautiful home.

First day back at work after 6 weeks off! It’s like the first day back in the gym 😂. Can you tell who was more excited about it?

The weather is warming up, and the hint of spring is around the corner!

Now that our busy Christmas season is over, January is a time for resting, refreshing, and repairing! Our carriages will be getting any needed maintenance, and our hard working horses get their “maintenance” too! regular bodywork; like massage, kinesiology tape and Masterson Method are a staple of how we help keep our horses comfortable and feeling their best.
Babe was up today for his session with our wonderful Masterson Method practitioner, Alice Long with 4 White Socks Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork. You can see how he is “releasing” tension by his giant yawns!

And that’s a wrap on our 2022 Christmas lights season!! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make our second year of rides at Watkins Regional Park such a success!! We truly couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.

It was a very merry Christmas Eve at Grace Covenant Church with Carriages of the Capital helping celebrate their annual Christmas Eve service and carriage rides! The weather may have been cold, but everyone’s hearts (and tushies!) were warm! Thank you so much to Marcia for letting us join in on the fun!

Had a BLAST on our first night of Festival of Lights rides at Watkins Regional Park. It’s our second year, and we went a little bigger!! Not one, but two carriages were running through the 1.5 miles of Christmas lights on the closed route of Watkins Park. Double the families and friends got to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

On Veterans Day, we wish to thank all those veterans and their families, past and present, who have served their country proudly!

As the partner of a veteran who continues to serve in a civilian capacity, I am very familiar with the sacrifices a service member and their entire family bear. My gratitude therefore extends today to their families and support networks, who help give those sacrifices meaning and make it bearable.

You can purchase your tickets via the Parks Direct website. Be sure to select the date range when you’re trying to find availability, otherwise the website will show tickets as unavailable. Please feel free to call Watkins Park for any further questions regarding the website!

Golden hour at its finest

I plan on giving one daily gorgeous photo from our wedding this past weekend! The golden hour light, the beautiful scenery, the stunning bride and groom, it made for some amazing imagery. So stay tuned for more photos!!

It takes a team and a lot of work behind the scenes to run our farm, our tours, as well as the day to day, including Jon’s full time federal job and my work as a doula. Not to mention two young children.
But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Somehow it all gets done, and somehow it all flows beautifully together. We don’t always get all the projects done that we want, and sometimes the house is an absolute wreck or the barn doesn’t get swept. But we’re all home together at the end of the day, our horses are fed, and our children get to grow up close to the land. It’s a good life, and I’m beyond grateful.
