Sally teaches us traditional dietary wisdom on how to nourish ourselves and our children.
Gravlax — Marinated Salmon By Sally Fallon Morell
We recommend this free summit!
Sally Fallon Morell and the Weston A. Price Foundation are not afraid of controversial topics. Sally wrote an article we link to via https://campsite.bio/nourish that we recommend every parent reads: "How to Ensure Optimal Hormonal Development in Your Child."
We want to talk openly about this and not shy away due to fear of reproach!

A dish to nourish you that is quite popular at Easter! Our latest recipe of the week courtesy of Sally Fallon Morell.

This is a test! Can we have an open discussion about this topic on this platform? Dare we write the word unobstructed?

Buyer's beware! Some people buy raw milk despite a label on the bottle that cautions them about the risks. Others buy raw milk with a label that claims it is only for their pets because it is too risky for human consumption. Others yet can't purchase it at all because they live in a state or country that makes it nearly impossible to do so!
Sally Fallon Morell address the supposed risks of raw milk in a rebuttal that have had many of us stand on our feet to cheer her on! Click on https://bit.ly/sallyfallonmorellrebuttal to read her article and visit realmilk.com for sources!
This month, we continue our focus on the third of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles which is nutrient-density.
Rendered animal fats like lard, tallow, and schmaltz are nutrient-dense and have been kitchen staples for centuries. The Epoch Times quotes Sally Fallon Morell and the research of Dr. Weston A. Price in an article published in 2022 that we link to via https://campsite.bio/westonaprice. We also link to an article published by Texas Real Food on "How to Render Fat: A Clear and Comprehensive Guide."
Animal fats are essential for life; they were the most valued part of the diet of traditional cultures. Throw out the industrial seed oils — the canola oil, soybean oil, corn oil and the like. We propose that it is not a coincidence that increased seed oil consumption correlates with increased rates of obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other modern health problems. Since seed oils are in virtually all industrially processed foods, the solution is to eat real food you prepare yourself.
The Epoch Times article includes an audio version if you prefer to listen. The author also explores the reasons cows are blamed for our climate and why pasture-based animal foods is the solution ... and the problems with crickets and insects as a replacement for protein. "It's not the cow, it's the how!
Dr. Weston A. Price visited Maasai and we have a fair amount of content about this African tribe on our website that we link to via campsite.bio/westonaprice. Sally Fallon Morell has asked us to request your support in this matter: in days, over 27,000 Maasai could lose their ancestral lands! Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan wants to evict them from their homeland to make way for luxury safaris for trophy hunters, with an eye on immense profits. There is a petition with over 3.4 million people from all over the world that we ask you to add your name to. This level of support has previously worked to stop the eviction and the Maasai elders of Tanzania are hopeful it will this time. Please add you name! campsite.bio/westonaprice
This photo was posted by one of our community members and prompted us to clarify that we don't recommend celery juice! One of the reasons is the amount of oxalates in celery.
Learn Sally Fallon Morell's perspective on celery juice in this article she published on her website: https://bit.ly/weirddiets
Learn why we don't recommend any juice: https://bit.ly/nojuicepost
We list fish liver oil as a nutrient-dense food to include in your diet. The recommendation is part of principle 3 of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles that we shared March 1. This month we will focus on nutrient-dense foods.
Some are confused about the difference between fish oil and fish liver oil. Sally Fallon Morell explains why we only recommend fish liver oil from the livers of cod, halibut, shark, skate, etc and not fish oils—which she characterizes as the latest nutritional fad—in an article we link to via https://campsite.bio/westonaprice. Take a look!
Update - we added a link to our "Cod Liver Oil Basics and Recommendations" via https://campsite.bio/westonaprice!
Values For The Fat-Soluble Activators By Sally Fallon Morell
An online search for "What is a Healthy Diet" results in pictures like this one. Some include skinless chicken breast, olive oil, kale and blueberries. Sally Fallon Morell answered the question in a Powerpoint she presented at her farm in Maryland. It was recorded and we've published it on our YouTube channel https://bit.ly/sallypresents!
We hope you'll view it and share it!
Meanwhile, our picture of a healthy diet would include all manner of pasture-raised and wild animal products, offal, traditional fats such as butter and lard, full fat, raw and cultured dairy products, naturally leavened bread, soaked and dehydrated nuts, sauerkraut, kombucha and natural sweeteners such as maple syrup and honey.
Chocolate is perhaps the most famous food associated with Valentine's Day. We don't recommend it. "Minimize caffeine and related substances in coffee, tea and chocolate." Gasp!
We link to 2 articles that explain why via https://campsite.bio/westonaprice. The one written by Sally Fallon Morell reviews the history of chocolate from the Aztecs to the present!
Meanwhile, another food associated with Valentine's Day is oysters, which we do recommend and link to an article that explains why! The Romans are attributed to have been some of the first to believe in the seductive power of oysters. Casanova is said to have consumed 50 oysters for breakfast, and modern science has linked their very rich zinc content as a booster for the production of testosterone. We recommend raw oysters as the most nutritions option.
The second of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles is to include animal foods. We recommend they be pasture-raised or wild and consumed nose-to-tail, which means every part ... especially the offal — the liver, heart, feet, etc!
There are some essential vitamins found only in animal products: Vitamin A (Retinol), B12, Carnitine, Carnosine, Creatine, D3, DHA, EPA, Heme Iron, and Taurine.

Packed full of protein, fat, and calories, pemmican has fueled us for thousands of years! Pemmican—also pemican in older sources—is a mixture of tallow, dried meat, and sometimes dried berries. Historically, it was an important part of native cuisine in certain parts of North America and it is still prepared today. It is described as the ultimate survival food because it provides all needed macro-nutrients and is shelf-stable. Both Sally Fallon Morell and Maria Atwood provide us with variations on pemmican recipes for our weekly series! Click on https://campsite.bio/westonaprice to see them.
At room temperature, pemmican can last from one to five years, but there are anecdotal stories of pemmican stored in cool cellars that was safely consumed after a decade or more.
Some of you ask us for recommendations for a multi–vitamin, so we wanted to clarify that we don't recommend supplements in favor of nutrient–dense whole foods. Keep in mind that cod liver oil is not a supplement — it is, in fact, a whole food — as is desiccated liver, as well as powdered oysters and acerola cherries. Read Sally Fallon Morell's article "Supplements: A Better Way" via campsite.bio/westonaprice!
We also link to Sally's article "Dr. Roizen’s Vitamin Plan" whereby she explains why we don't recommend vitamin D supplementation in particular!
This post ties in with our focus this month on the first of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles: avoid refined and denatured food. The diets of healthy, nonindustrialized peoples
contain no synthetic vitamins. Sally states that we need to remember that vitamin supplements and related products are new to the scene and for thousands of years, we consumed the vitamins and minerals we needed from food.
We are aware that our soils are depleted, however we still believe it is possible to nourish ourselves adequately with whole foods. Please read the articles we link to via campsite.bio/westonaprice whereby Sally lists the exact nutrients we need and the food they are food in!
_______
Please note that we've also added the link to the overview of the first principle of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles toward the top of the list so you can learn more about it. The overview includes links to a number of questions you may have such as "what about protein powders?" Sneak peak: we don't recommend any protein powders. Not one.
Almond cookies and 4 variations– cashew, pecan, carob and raspberry jam–are our recipes of the week courtesy of Sally Fallon Morell. Click on https://campsite.bio/westonaprice to see this photo and the recipes!
This ties in with our focus this month on the first of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles, which is to avoid all refined and denatured foods. These cookies are made with an unrefined, unbleached natural sweetener rich in minerals that has been used in India for thousands of years. The commercial name is Rapadura. We still consider these and all desserts to be a treat. Sally cautions us not to overdo it as even a natural sweetener can upset our body chemistry.
You will also find links to "properly prepared" soaked almonds, cashews and pecans in this recipe, as well as learn about arrowroot flour included! Enjoy!
Sally Fallon Morell recently published a post on her website that offers a point-by-point rebuttal to a recent article written by Dr. Claire Panosian Dunavan on the topic of raw milk. Dr. Dunavan's article is titled "Got Raw Milk? — Thanks, but I'll take mine pasteurized." Sally's passionate rebuttal had us stand on our feet to cheer her on and we anticipate some of you may as well! Take a look at https://bit.ly/sallyfallonmorellrebuttal
Sally asserts that raw milk is the future. She predicts that within twenty years, pasteurized milk will be over and done with. Small, pasture-based dairy farms will proliferate to meet the demand and no couple will start a family without a supply of raw milk nearby. Sally concludes that health officials like Professor Donavan can protest all they want, but fewer and fewer people care to listen. What do you think of her prediction? Comments, please!

Roman Lentil Soup By Sally Fallon Morell
"Dr. Price's Remedy" is the title of Sally Fallon Morell's article published in the latest edition of our Wise Traditions journal! Please read the article via https://campsite.bio/westonaprice before you ask questions here.
Dr. Price's remedy consistency remineralized cavities and was used to quickly revive his nephew Donald Price from brink of death from pneumonia. Sally recounts how others have successfully used the remedy to heal both physically and mentally.
So, what is this remedy? It is a combination of cod liver oil and butter oil. Ghee is not the same as the butter oil he made and used, folks! Ghee is certainly a traditional fat we recommended, but Dr. Price's remedy utilized a very specific concentrated butter oil rich in what he referred to as "Activator X." Today we know Activator X is vitamin K2 MK-4, the animal form of vitamin K that you'll learn about in the article. Green Pasture Products produces the Concentrated Butter Oil as described by Dr. Price. Australian Emu Oil can also be used since it is rich in vitamin K2 MK-4. The article links to our recommended cod liver oil brands.

Bio
Sally Fallon Morell is best known as the author of Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. This well-researched, though-provoking guide to traditional foods contains a startling message: animal fats and cholesterol are not villains but vital factors in the diet, necessary for normal growth, proper function of the brain and nervous system, protection from disease and optimum energy levels.
Sally’s lifelong interest in the subject of nutrition began in the early 1970s when she read Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price. Called the “Charles Darwin of Nutrition,” Price traveled the world over studying healthy primitive populations and their diets. The unforgettable photographs contained in his book document the beautiful facial structure and superb physiques of isolated groups consuming only whole, natural foods. Price noted that all of these diets contained a source of good quality animal fat, which provided numerous factors necessary for the full expression of our genetic potential and optimum health. Sally applied the principles of Dr. Price’s research to the feeding of her own children, and proved for herself that a diet rich in animal fats, and containing the protective factors in old-fashioned foodstuffs like cod liver oil, liver, raw milk, butter and eggs, make for sturdy cheerful children with a high immunity to illness.
When the youngest of her four children became old enough to attend school full time, Sally applied her writing skills and training in French and Mediterranean cooking to the subject of nutrition and began work on a comprehensive cookbook that would combine accurate information on nutrition with delicious, practical recipes. She teamed with Mary Enig, PhD, an expert of world renown in the subject of lipids and human nutrition. With over six hundred thousand copies in print, Nourishing Traditions® has stimulated the public health and medical communities to take a new look at the importance of traditional foods and preparation techniques, and to reexamine the many myths about saturated fats and cholesterol. The book places special emphasis on the feeding of babies and children to ensure optimal development during their crucial growing years.
The culinary ideas introduced in Nourishing Traditions® have stimulated the growth of a variety of small businesses providing traditional nutrient-dense foods including lacto-fermented condiments, kombucha and other lacto-fermented soft drinks, bone broth and genuine sourdough bread. Raw milk production is flourishing as are direct farm-to-consumer buying arrangements.
