Happy International Polar Bear Day! Fun fact: polar bears have a third eyelid that helps filter UV light. That's right! Because the snowy Arctic reflects loads of UV light, the third eyelid of acts like a natural sunglass.

Macular degeneration affects the macula, causing central vision loss. This results in difficulty reading, seeing details, recognizing faces, poor depth perception, and light sensitivity.
Early symptoms of this eye disease can be minimal, so early detection is crucial in order to get treated early on to slow or prevent further degeneration.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Though we've had major advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, countless people requiring cancer care still hit barriers, whether due to income, education, or geographical location. When lenses are put to rest in fresh solution, the solution collects all the bacteria from the lenses. Reusing or “topping off” the solution allows bacteria to grow and fester on the lenses—a big no-no if you want to maintain healthy eyes and vision. Make sure you dispose of lens solution on a daily basis and replace your lens case every 3-4 months!
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of vision loss and blindness worldwide. This eye disease, also known as the "sneak thief of sight", shows no symptoms early on. This is why the majority of those with early-stage glaucoma don’t know they have it. A comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to detect this eye disease—caught early, glaucoma can be managed and eyesight saved.
Today we celebrate the braille system that enables millions of blind and visually impaired people around the world to read and write through touch. World Braille Day marks the birthday of Louis Braille, born on January 4th, 1809. He was blinded at a young age following an accident, which later inspired him to develop a system of tactile code enabling blind people to read and write quickly and efficiently.

Do you ever SLEEP with your contacts on? Be careful, as it can make your eyes more vulnerable to infections. Moreover, wearing them for extended periods of time dries out your eyes and lenses which can cause damage when removing them. Do your eyes a favor and let them breathe by removing your contacts before going to bed.

Washing your face on a daily basis is super important, as it keeps your face and eyes free of debris and bacteria. This is all the more important if you wear makeup or tend to spend your days in dusty or dirt-filled environments.
