My name is Caryn Brokaw, and I have studied music education, and have been participating in various movement to music early education practices over the last several years. I am a strong believer in the bond it creates between adult and child, child to child, and each child to THEMSELVES.

It promotes language skills, social skills, motor skills, problem solving skills, as well as emotional intelligence. WOW!

Orff the Hook offers movement to music classes for littles ages 3-7 for optimum brain development. Who said learning music fundamentals has to be boring?!

With roots in the Kodály, Orff, and Dalcroze methods, we use our bodies to INTERNALIZE the way music FEELS. This then gives children confidence when it’s time to put an instrument in their hands, as well as develops parts of the brain responsible for social, language, and problem solving skills. A child sings the ABCs before they EVER see the letters on paper. Right? Why would music be any different?

Today on the musical menu ♥️🎶

We sang hello with ukulele accompaniment
We danced with scarves, we juggled scarves, we had a scarf FIGHT! 😵‍💫
We had drum circle time
We jingled our tambourines at the window.. ti-de-o style 👀
We trashed the camp with Tarzan’s friends, and we ended with singing and dancing freestyle to Sunflower 🌻 by Post Malone.

We had SO MUCH FUN!

🧩🧩Do you know what an EGG SHAKER is?🧩🧩

An egg shaker, or ganzá, is a hand percussion instrument that makes a noise when shaken. Typically they have seeds or small beads placed on the inside, and, you guessed it, is in the shape of an egg!

Egg shakers aren’t the most expensive thing on the market, but they make a fun craft project if you have uncooked rice and some old Easter eggs lying around!

Tune in TONIGHT AT 7PM and we will make our own egg shakers together, and then do a couple of songs using our new instruments!

For one standard egg shaker all you’ll need is:
1 TBSP uncooked rice
1 Plastic Easter egg
Some tape of some kind- scotch tape is fine, colorful duct tape if you want to spice things up. 😏🔥

I am going to start MUSIC MONDAYS! We will do an activity or two every Monday night!

Tonight at 7pm we are going to go live on Facebook and engage in some Sensory Play! We are going to scoop, pour, mix, and play with different sounds! ALL YOU NEED at home is some 1️⃣uncooked rice, 2️⃣ some toys or household items that can scoop, pour, and mix, and 3️⃣ maybe a bin or tray to contain the rice in. Feel free to take any and all mess preventative measures you individually want to take.

🧩🧩What is “Sensory Play”?🧩🧩

Sensory play includes any activity that stimulates a young child's senses of touch👆, smell👃, taste👅, sight👁 and hearing👂, as well as anything which engages movement and balance.💪🦾🦵🦿

🧩🧩What are some benefits of sensory play?🧩🧩

1. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain.🧠
2. It encourages the development of motor skills.🏃‍♀️🏃
3. It supports language development.🗣
