Shearing and slitting are manufacturing processes in which metal sheets are cut in straight lines. Shearing takes place at the ends of the sheets, while slitting is used to cut wide metal rolls into narrower sheets.

During the SLS process (selective laser sintering) a carbon dioxide laser is drawn into a bed of thermoplastic powder, fusing (sintering) the powder into a solid. It is exceptionally accurate, can be used with a range of materials, and has a number of finishing options.

The speed, pressure, and size of a water jet are so great that they are often referred to as water lasers, and they work in the same fashion. They can cut completely through materials, or can be used like a router to create delicate inlays and patterns during manufacture.

For producing longer cuts and manufacturing heavier parts, Swiss machining is a more effective process than what can be produced with a standard CNC turning lathe. Its multi-axial configuration also reduces secondary processes.

In hydraulic manufacturing equipment, the fluid, when under pressure, is stored in an accumulator. The liquid in this container is used to absorb shock, to provide energy, or to increase or decrease pressure. Accumulator designs include bladder, piston, and diaphragm.

Water jet cutting is a safe alternative to traditional methods of parts manufacture. It is especially good for precision cutting of materials easily damaged by other methods.

Milling machines are used for cutting or shaping wood, metals of all kinds, and plastics, and they are labeled according to their degree of motion and work piece orientation. The mills themselves are outfitted with tool heads, which are determined by the material being milled.

Laser technology delivers precise work on materials that require extremely precise cutting. It is a sound alternative to traditional stamping and manufacturing processes, and is recommended for metals requiring cut consistencies between 0.002” and 0.003”.
