Meet Dr. Furrow 🌟

She is a general & vascular surgery superstar and comes to us by way of University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is also a U.S. Air Force veteran who performed hundreds of surgeries during her time in Afghanistan. Her lived experience makes her an extremely skilled, dedicated caregiver and we are very lucky to have her on our team.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month is a time for us to speak up about the dangers of skin cancer, share the facts and help save lives. It is America’s most common cancer, but it is also one of the most preventable. Here are some ways that you can protect yourself and your loved ones from the risks of skin cancer:

🌤️ Stay out of the sun as much as possible between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m
🕶️ Cover up with long sleeves, long pants or a long skirt, a hat, and sunglasses
💛 Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher
🍊 Don't use indoor tanning machines
🔍 Check your skin for changes regularly

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy - try saying that three times fast!

This same-day procedure, also known as an EGD, is a test to examine the lining of the esophagus (the tube that connects your throat to your stomach), stomach, and first part of the small intestine. It is done with a small camera (flexible endoscope) that is inserted down the throat.

A doctor may perform this procedure to diagnose and (when possible) treat certain disorders of the upper GI tract. GERD is one of those conditions - learn more about it and how it is diagnosed and treated at the link.

GERD Endoscopy: Purpose, Preparation, Procedure, Aftercare Upper GI endoscopy can be used to help diagnose GERD. While it’s not ordered in all cases, it may be used if you have atypical symptoms.

Okay, this is pretty awesome. After nearly four years in the making, this full-length documentary on Paramount Bristol's legacy will premiere at the theater on April 13th. Each year, there is a theme chosen to represent the current state of global health. The 2024 theme is 'My health, my right’.

The WHO Council has found that although at least 140 countries recognize health as a human right in their constitution, only 4 countries have mentioned how to finance it.

With this in mind, the 2024 theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.

An inguinal hernia is a bulge that occurs in your groin region, the area between the lower part of your abdomen and your thigh. Inguinal hernias occur because of a weakening of the muscles in the lower abdomen.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and we want to take this opportunity to talk about the importance of getting screened!

Colorectal cancer is a growth of cells that forms in the lower digestive tract. In many cases, this type of cancer starts as noncancerous growths called polyps. Removing these polyps can prevent cancer, so we recommend screenings starting at age 45 OR earlier for those at high risk. Screening tests can also find colorectal cancer early, when treatment is most effective.
