One of the things that makes Cylk's visit tomorrow so interesting is his interaction with directors and actors we all know. For this visit, there's a sad dimension to this with the death of Matthew Perry. Arts Alliance Mountain Empire (AAME) is an arts council serving artists, arts organizations, and other cultural endeavors in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Its stated mission — to nurture, advocate and celebrate the arts across the Mountain Empire — is accomplished through the following projects:
* the publication of A! Magazine for the Arts (winner of the 2003 Tennessee Governor's Award for Arts Leadership; a 2007 Pinnacle tourism award for the print and on-line editions and e-mail digest; and three awards in 2009 from the Society of Professional Journalists, Tri-Cities Chapter)
* the development and publication of Our Cultural Crossroads, a regional visitor's guide
* founded Art in Public Places, an annual outdoor sculpture competition in downtown Bristol, TN/VA
* and participation in "My Home is Tennessee," a statewide Arts for Youth program
Formed in 2003, AAME seeks to support artists and arts organizations, to promote collaboration with communities, and to improve recognition of the aesthetic, educational and economic value of the arts. AAME is funded in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
