Highlight of the Week: Seeing our artwork on display this afternoon at Rochester Contemporary Art Center!

This annual fundraiser is fantastic.

All artworks will be exhibited and for sale to the public for $20 each to benefit RoCo.

Artists’ names will be revealed to the buyer upon purchase and all artworks remain on display through the end of the exhibition.

Seeing submissions from both Residents and Staff today was incredibly special. 💕

What is your favorite way to express creativity?!

This week, Debbie Dolinski, the Regional VP of Health and Wellness for Evergreen Place, visited our community to do “Dementia Live” training with our staff.
What is Dementia Live training?

Dementia Live is a dementia simulation experience, that immerses participants into scenarios of living life with dementia. It provides the participants with a deeper understanding of what it is like for someone to live with cognitive impairment and sensory changes.

This training was not only offered to our care staff but to ALL departments from Dining to Housekeeping. In addition, all members of management attended.

Staff had to wear headphones with different types of background noise which created varied sensory issues like confusion, anxiety, hearing issues, over stimulation and frustration.

They had glasses on that block peripheral vision and made focusing on a task very difficult.

They had to wear special gloves and were asked to perform specific tasks. The gloves mimicked what it would feel like completing a task with neuropathy or arthritis.

They had simple tasks like buttoning shirts, using the phone, and putting the puzzle pieces together. Needless to say, it was not so simple!

This training offered staff an opportunity to reflect on what some of our residents may experience on a daily basis. There were lots of feelings and emotions shared.

We had great feedback from everyone on the value this training provided them.

Another way is that Evergreen Place is investing in our employees to provide exceptional resident care!

Please join us in welcoming our Health and Wellness Director, Nikia, and Health and Wellness Coordinator, Jill to our Management Team!

We are so happy to have you as part of our Evergreen Family!

In their own words:

"My Name is Nikia McGee. I am the mother of three children 24,17 and 5. I entered the nursing field in 2005 as a CNA, then progressed to an LPN, then to an RN BSN and now MSN. I have been in leadership since 2010. I have had the advantage to work with professionals from various specialties and fields. Some of my skills include maintaining excellent relationships with colleagues and staff, responding to work demands quickly and efficiently. I am a 360-degree leader of focus, commitment and sheer will. I believe that I owe it to the residents and staff to display empathy, passion, compassion, quality and efficiency. As a leader I believe one of the greatest things to know is what you don't know and how to learn it, leaders start at the back of the line because you are not able to lead, guide and mentor people to a place where you have not gone. Don't go through it grow through it transforming your team along the way. I am looking forward to my journey at Evergreen Place, building and growing providing excellent service and quality care."

"My name is Jill Bassett. I am the Health and Wellness Coordinator here at Evergreen place. I am a mother of 1 tweenage daughter aged 12. I was born and raised in Hilton, NY although I have traveled around world and lived in several different cities, I have landed back in Hilton to call my home. Always being the adventurous type and one to try anything and everything new, I find solace in helping others. Since becoming a nurse, I have grown into my passion for helping people, specifically the geriatric population. I believe in the idea that I will care for those in a way that I would wish my own grandmother be cared for. At home, I enjoy being out in the yard when the weather is nice, and doing my own version of home improvements. I live by the motto “bee kind” because all it takes is 5 minutes to show someone that you care."
