Can you believe it’s already May 2024? Custom Cuts is rapidly approaching its 17th year in business.

I want to thank the community for its support over the years. Your support means everything to us. My father taught me an honest days work for an honest wage. Unfortunately the cost of everything has gone up significantly over the 5 years. Some costs have tripled since our inception in August of 2007.

We have been forced to raise our prices as a result of higher costs but we still strive to provide a better value to our customers than most of our competitors.

With our considerable time in the industry and our commitment to continuing education Custom Cuts remains on the cutting edge of our industry.

Many local “tree companies”have not been properly educated on correct arborist techniques and can cause more harm to your trees than good. Even upon first glance after one of these companies has finished trimming the tree may look better but if improper techniques such as lion tailing or flush cutting were used then the tree will suffer later in life. It’s important to hire knowledgeable tree folk.

Frankly here at Custom Cuts we love what we do. If I was rich I would continue this business at cost however the truth is
we will never get rich doing what we do but that is not our goal. We love providing a valuable tho inherently dangerous service to our community.

Tree cutting is definitely a skill with many factors involved and should not be attempted by amateurs except perhaps minor pruning or jobs with little potential risk. There is a reason why general liability and worker’s compensation rates are substantially higher for the tree cutting community. Most landscapers insurance do not allow them to climb trees.

Tulsa does have a wonderful arborist community and there are plenty of great, knowledgeable companies out there that offer an outstanding service. The BBB told me about 15 years ago there were 300 tree companies in the Tulsa metro area. I would venture to guess there are over 1000 now. However I would also guess about only 5-10% of those are great arborists with a passion for proper tree care.

This was probably the longest post I’ve ever made and I would be quite surprised if anyone takes the time to read it all. Thank you if you did.

Fun crane day in Haskell today. We removed two large pecans simultaneously with the assistance of a 40 ton crane. Done by 2:00 and headed off to another!

Busy day at the office today. Removing a large elm that had a bit of a lean and some decay at the base. It was making the homeowners a little too nervous.
We’ll be grinding the stump tomorrow.

We played at the yard mostly this week when we worked. We took half of the week off. Last week we removed a large hollow elm tree threatening a nice split rail fence and power lines. We are proud to work for Tulsa County as their tree care provider.
