01 Nov 1955 - 30 Apr 1975

A generation of young men, boys who were hardly old enough to vote, many too young to buy a cold beer…a generation of young men who stood up and said “send me!” when a nation asked “who will go for us?” A generation of young men who saw the horrors and realities of true evil, of what a man can do to another man, and still walked patrols night after night. A generation who was welcomed home not with “thank you” and appreciation, but hate and protest by their fellow American.

A generation who came home and wanted a handshake, a “good job, son” and a chance to return back to the world and forget that jungle. A generation who to this day never received the appreciation they deserved for the sacrifices they made.

Today is Vietnam Veterans Day. When you see that older man at the PX with his hat full of pins, or his jacket of patches…shake his hand and say “thank you.” And take the time to talk to him. It may not mean much to you, but i can promise it will mean the world to him. Take the time to go visit the local Legion or VFW. Buy a beer or grab lunch and sit and talk with some of those older vets. We have more in common with them than you’d think.
