Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab
Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab. Providing hope for the unwanted. We work with dogs from shelters, rescues, and foster programs.
We do not accept animals without referrals and we do not rehome home animals. We prepare dogs that are referred to us to become adoptable pets for forever homes that are secured by the referring agency.
The Usual Suspects at Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab wish you and yours a safe and fun Halloween.
Every pet handler stands in this place at some time. It seems to happen more frequently for those of us involved in rescue work. Please, remember those of us who stand in the gap, giving hope to the unwanted, and making sure they are not alone when the final moments come. We're standing in that place now, as we stand vigil with our beloved Queen.
REPOSTED:
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years -
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come, so let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve - it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years -
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

DID YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD NOT POUR COLD WATER ON AN OVERHEATED DOG OR PUT A WET TOWEL ON THEIR BACK ‼️
HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD DO…
Animal lovers, never make the mistake of throwing cold water on an overheated dog or putting a wet towel on his back. You will see the opposite effect.
Due to the cold, the veins contract and due to the high temperature (above 42 degrees), the proteins in the blood clot, which makes the blood thick and viscous.
Due to the combination of the two, the heart can no longer get the blood and the organs fail one by one due to lack of oxygen.
The result is a very slow but very painful death.
If you try to help an overheated dog in this way, he will still die.
First give lukewarm water to drink, then cool the soles of the feet and chest/lower abdomen with a damp towel.
Then put the dog in the shade on a damp towel!!
Sharing is highly desirable because again and again we see images of overheated dogs getting out of a car with water poured on their backs

Hmmm?
Here's a little giggle from the Usual Suspects at Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab.
We appreciate all of you that have liked and followed this page. We apologize for the inconsistent postings. We are working towards bringing better and more frequent content on relevant topics as we move forward.
Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab has been established as a Non-profit 501(c)3 charity. I have a limited experience with the nuts and bolts of it all, so our development has been a slow process, learning as we go. We are about to take this endeavor to the next level.
The primary purpose of Turtle Island C.R.R. is "Providing Hope For The Unwanted."
This includes the Christmas puppy's that got surrendered for being too rambunctious, those families that left their pets behind as they moved on with their lives, and other heart wrenching rescue stories.
We do this by providing a safe space to live and breathe for dogs that have been traumatized, neglected, and oftentimes abused.
By allowing them to feel comfort and security, we open the door for lessons of trust, cooperation, and social interactions.
This can be a lengthy process at times, with all the cost and day to day maintenance needs that goes along with raising any dog.
Our lease on the Doghouse and other operating costs have gone up recently. To add to that our Rescue Wagon turned it's last corner a few months back and we need to replace it. We also have several plans for improvements to our facility, and the support services that we offer.
Thunder's Pack Canine Training has been the financial vehicle that has gotten us to this point, and currently sustains Turtle Island. We could use a little help.
We are creating a donation button for our new website for those who may be in a position to contribute. We thank you in advance for you ongoing support.
Our most pressing need at the moment is to replace our Rescue Wagon that we use to transport rescues to and from our facility. If you or someone you know is upgrading their vehicle we would be interested in looking at it. With our Non-profit status your donations are tax deductible, this could be for your full asking price of the vehicle, or for the remainder after our negotiations.
Frequent repair costs to the previous Rescue Wagon delayed several projects like our grooming station, reducing maintenance cost for the Usual Suspects. It also held up plans to insulate the roof in our rumpus room area, reducing our heating cost. Central air, rubber floors, and building treadmills to exercise our high energy charges are some of the other projects we have in the works.
Liking and following this page is a big help because it makes us more visible, we're grateful for you doing that. Interactions with the site adds to that visibility. Sharing this page with your like minded friends adds to that as well.
For your support to this point I say Chi-miigwetch, deep gratitude. For those who are able to help us at a deeper level, my words can not express that level of gratitude.
We look forward to developing a long term relationship with our supporters as we provide hope for the unwanted, and give a new life to the fur babies that come to our care.

Providing hope for the unwanted.
Greetings from:
Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab. Providing hope for the unwanted.
Some dogs find their way into what should be a forever home, but things don't work out and they get returned for no real fault of their own. Some dogs just can't keep it together when people come to visit, or they're such shrinking violets that they get passed over time and time again. These dogs have great potential to be the perfect new addition to your pack. We provide the safety net to help these dogs get the social skills they need and to find their forever home.
I must interject here, there are a lot of well-intended adopters that fall short and don't give the dog a proper chance. Often times, especially with adopted puppies, their exuberance is misinterpreted as aggressive behavior. Once a dog is returned to shelter, especially if it is mislabeled as aggressive, it can begin a downward spiral that could eventually lead it to the needle. Yet with some proper guidance, a structured environment, loving and affectionate encouragement, these dogs become great companions. That's what they find here at Turtle Island Canine Rescue Rehab.
