Woah! What the heck is this?! Any guesses?
The only food that never expires is honey, which is naturally made by bees. Although some processed, sugary foods like Chef Boyardee and Twinkies may seem to never expire, if left for hundreds or even thousands of years, they eventually would. The same cannot be said for honey!
Archaeologists have found honey in the tombs of ancient Egyptian pharaohs, still as fresh and edible as the day it was put in there, some 3000+ years ago.
Which food never expires? Share your guess.

It's National Typewriter Day!
Did you know...
The very first example of a typewriting device can be trace to Italy in the 1500s, but the story of a more modern typewriter is kind of romantic:
In 1802, Italian inventor Agostino Fantoni developed a particular typewriter to enable his blind sister to write. Between 1801 and 1808, Italian inventor, Pellegrino Turri also created a typewriter for his blind friend Countess Carolina Fantoni da Fivizzano!
🤔I wonder how many of you remember what this is?

Today is World Rainforest Day!
The rainforests are keeping our planet alive. They’re home to half the world’s animal species, they provide us with freshwater, and are essential for keeping our climate stable. Yet every second, one and a half hectares is lost, while each year, 78 million hectares of precious rainforest are destroyed. Since 2017, World Rainforest Day has sought to bring awareness and change to combat deforestation, reduce the effects of climate change, and protect our rainforests for future generations.

What's worse than riding in a subway car with minimal air-conditioning? Riding when there were only 10 air-conditioned cars *total* in the subway.
Subway cars weren't air-conditioned until 1955 when one car was installed with air-conditioned units. In 1967, 10 air-conditioned cars went into service on the F train. By 1970, 610 out of 7,000 cars were air-conditioned, with cool and hot cars mixed together on the E, F, and GG lines. The other lines were either completely air-conditioned—or not at all. By 1985, 75% of the cars were supposed to have air-conditioning but a report revealed that only 57% were cool. Today the subway's entire fleet of cars are meant to have air-conditioning. Though, any New Yorker can tell you what it's like on an unlucky day when you have to ride in the hot car.

Today is Windrush Day! Windrush Day dates back to the 1948 and centers around the rebuilding of post-WWII Britain when a large number of migrant workers, mostly from the Caribbean, South Africa, and Pakistan, arrived via the HMT Empire Windrush. They worked in jobs such as steel, coal, iron and food, as well as service work like public transportation or staffing the NHS.
In honor of Windrush Day, Britsh people are encouraged to host events and celebrations and to reflect on the difficulties that were faced by the Windrush Generation and their descendants.

As the first nationally syndicated, openly gay political cartoonist, Danny Sotomayor advocated for LGBTQ+ communities in the 1980s and ‘90s. With a passionate personality, Sotomayor became one of the loudest activists in Chicago’s fight for equal healthcare for LGBTQ+ people, especially those affected by AIDS.
Throughout his 13-year career, he created more than 200 cartoons underscoring government inaction around the AIDS health crisis. But, his advocacy went beyond the newspaper page. In the late ‘80s, he cofounded ACT-UP Chicago, an AIDS awareness activist group.
Danny Sotomayor's portrait by Rafael López is featured in our National Museum of the American Latino's exhibition "¡Presente! A Latino History of the United States," on view at the National Museum of American History.
--
A Latino History of the United States" abierta al público en National Museum of American History.

Hot (Bikram) Yoga
Perfect for a day like today, as the name suggests, practiced in a very hot environment. The added heat is supposed to help muscles relax into asanas more easily. Have you tried Hot Yoga?
Vinyasa, or "flow," classes move smoothly between asanas focusing on aligning each movement with the breath. The repeated, fast-paced motions make this style challenging and a great way to tone and strengthen the muscles.
It's International Yoga Day!
There are several yoga forms, but most trace their roots to the same ancient principles and are based on the same fundamental asanas (poses).
