Brownwood City Council approves Allcorn Park Project proposed by BMDD
Allcorn Park in Brownwood is set for a major upgrade, thanks to the approval Tuesday by the Brownwood City Council for a $225,000 park improvement project. The council also ratified the BMDD's cost at $125,000 to go for all inclusive equipment to be installed there.

In 2022, the ARC of Brown County donated $100,000 to the City of Brownwood to create an all-inclusive playground at Allcorn Park. Any additional funds over the combined $225,000 cost of the project will come from city coffers. The project will be paid for via the 2024-2025 budget year.
Parks and Recreation Director Roland Soto will be overseeing the project by working with the vendor to order the equipment.
The current playground equipment, which is at least 40 years old, will either be moved within the park or relocated to another city park.
The project could be completed by the fall of this year.
In other business Tuesday, the council approved a request to order a new fire engine by Fire Chief Eric Hicks, at a cost of almost $1 million. The turn-around time is about two years, Hicks said.
The council also approved a bid for just over $130,000 for the purchase of the new Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). The city will receive about 90 percent reimbursement for the project paid for through a TxDOT Airport grant.

Last month, our executive director, Sarah Hoffman, met with 3M's plant manager, Russ Bryan to receive a donation of over $14,000 to unofficially kickstart the 2024 campaign season. 3M has consistently been a top donor to Brown County United Way and has a long history of dedication to supporting our partner agencies who serve Brown County. In addition to employee contributions and company matches, 3M raises funds by auctioning up front parking spaces to their employees. It's a fun way for employees to get involved and contribute.
Would you like to make a donation of your own? If your employer doesn't participate in a United Way campaign or you want to make an immediate donation, you can do so at https://secure.givelively.org/donate/brown-county-united-way.
