Some of you may or may not remember back to ancient antiquity 😉 when was part of the musical entertainment lineup here at the Hive for our very first anniversary. We couldn't really afford an entertainment budget then, but we were incredibly fortunate to have some very talented artists wish to play for us nevertheless. Lillian was one of these artists.

Sally and I have known Lillian and her family for several years. We have enjoyed watching her grow in age, beauty, and in her artistic development through her incredible gift of music and songwriting. Her music has the power to move your soul- I've experienced it. I bawled like a baby in broad daylight for the beautifully unapologetic song she wrote for the loss of our dear mutual family friend, Ms. Judy.

I know people like Sally and I would never be where we are today without the incredible support of our local community, The Georges Mill "Loopers" of Lovettsville, VA (we see you Mark and that awesome Gibson guitar you gifted to our hometown girl that Luke is fan-girling over in the photo shown here 😉), kind-hearted people, and artists supporting artists.

So, in the spirit of using this platform to rally behind a young girl with a dream, please tune in SUNDAY, MARCH 17TH, to ABC at 8 pm EST to watch to see audition in front of and ❤️🎤 We see you Lillian, and we always knew you'd do amazing things. I’ve been wrestling with how to convey this message for a bit now as I want to get it just right. Six months ago, I received a life-threatening diagnosis that would change my life. I have tried my best to manage my diagnosis while continuing to hold a full work schedule full of appearances, tapings, travel, and custom orders. However, it has only become more and more apparent that I must prioritize my health over my craft at this point in time. As such, it is in the best interests of my health and recovery to close The Hive Cake Shop.

The past 5 years here at the Hive have truly been some of the most remarkable in all my life. When Sally and I first opened this little baby beehive, we had absolutely no idea what we were getting ourselves into let alone all the incredible opportunities that awaited us. I’m sure our inexperience showed at times, but Im thankful for those who had the patience to grow with us.

I consider myself so incredibly honored to have also had the opportunity of representing Brunswick on popular baking competition shows such as Food Network, Netflix, and more. I am also grateful for the “legitimacy” that other publications like Martha Stewart and Better Homes and Gardens provided to us when we were just starting out. All of these opportunities have been true childhood dreams made realities.

I also wish to thank the City of Brunswick for most recently awarding The Hive Cake Shop $60,000 in grant monies. Unfortunately, I did recognize that I wouldn’t be able to see the project through to completion due to my illness. As such I have already returned the grant monies to the City of Brunswick.

In closing, I hope you all will join me in honoring and celebrating the successes of The Hive over the past five years. I cannot truly express how grateful I am to each one of our fans- both domestically and internationally. You are the magic that makes the dream come alive. To each of you, I thank you for believing in us always and hope you do not see this as a permanent good-bye but a very grateful, “Hope to see you soon.”

Since the 340 detour went into effect, we have noticed a measurable and significant drop in business. While we remain a custom order business, many commuter routes have changed in the Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia areas. Many clients have already expressed they wish to avoid 340 altogether and so "don't make the drive" to Brunswick. I also understand that the construction at the bridge here in Brunswick a few weeks back also added to many people working hard to avoid Brunswick altogether and elected to place their orders elsewhere so not to endure hours of brutal traffic.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't forget you can get to Brunswick from routes 287 through Lovettsville (VA) or from 340 West coming from Frederick (MD). The Brunswicm exit is well before the 340 detour.

Like all small businesses being NEGATIVELY AND SIGNIFICANTLY impacted by customers attempting to avoid this *cluster* of a traffic issue impacting three states ......We need your support.

Support Local. We are a small business that critically depends on continued community support. These detours kill our business and those like ours who are dependent on customers being able to access us conveniently at all times of day.

I have reinstated online ordering for other non-cake items like scones, cookies etc and will be adding more of our "fan favorites items" this week. I will also be expanding our pickup times later into the evening to accommodate travel times for customers who wish to support us with orders during the week.

I also realize the economy still is not ideal and so some budgets do not allow for purchases from "a fancy bakery." Still, you can help us for free! Please like and share this post and tag some friends to help us beat the algorithms and bring more awareness to this issue, which isn't isolated to just us. This is an issue impacting MANY MANY small business, and we all appreciate your help in any way you can.
