Kicking off Tastes of History with the legendary Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. 🍕

On March 17, 1971, Lou and Jean Malnati opened their first pizzeria in Lincolnwood, IL. Lou brought his pizza-making expertise—and his fun-loving personality—to the table. He always joked about an Italian opening a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on St. Patrick’s Day, but that was just Lou’s style.

Opening day was one for the books: crowds lined the streets for their first slice, and in true dramatic fashion, a car crashed through the dining room wall during dinner... an unforgettable start to the Chicago institution that we all know and love today.
