Bringing a bit of drama to the @oasisdancecenter fall hafla! 😁 Since the pandemic brought online shows into our lives, I've found that even when I perform in person now, I like to challenge myself creatively and plan out my pieces a bit more than I used to. I'm very much an improvisational dancer, but I find that I now think more deeply about: ✨What emotions do I want to project when the music begins? ✨What visual lines do I want the audience to first glimpse? ✨How can I best embody musical changes in the song? ✨Does the music call out for a prop, and if so, how do I best integrate it into my piece? It's made this part of my life much richer, and it's also provided a deep well of new things I want to learn and hone. It's all just such a gift to me. ♥️

❄️November feels…The snow has already started to fly in my part of the world, and the early darkness is creeping longer. I do enjoy the coziness of winter (I enjoy knitting, crocheting, reading, dog snuggles during Netflix binges, hot cocoa, and other such indoor pursuits) but I miss the happy busyness and social events of summer. ❤️ What are your November feels? 🍂I was feeling a little contemplative this week, and this Elyanna song sparked the feels. ❤️ 🍂I found out recently that someone I knew in my childhood, and went to school with for many years, passed away. He was just the nicest human, I have nothing but sweet, generous memories of him. Though we hadn’t seen each other for many years, we kept in touch via social media, and it hurts knowing he’s not still out in the world living a happy life with his family. 🍂Life is so achingly short. 🍂 A little mystery on a dark autumn night. 💕 🍂 when I perform, I love planning the beginning of my piece, though the rest will be mostly improvisation. Whether I start on the stage, or enter, I love the anticipatory energy that the very beginning brings when the audience sees your movement, or your stillness, for the very first time. Spring practice, March 2023
A little lunchtime office practice video on a cold March afternoon. ☘️ I love working on dance in there because the small "dance floor 😁" forces me to fine tune my improvisation around being in a smaller space with little room for travel. This week, I'm trying to work on defined, deliberate movements and an unhurried pace. ❤️ I'm also working on choosing music for upcoming spring and summer shows!

The Dark Salon (in person!) March 2023 Dance has come to mean so many different things to me in my adult life, and the thing about it that is my absolute favorite is how it makes me feel so alive. I’m in touch with my entire self when I dance: 💛 My emotions: I’m excited/nervous/earnest/sweating/joyful all mixed up in one! 💛 My heart: I am so passionate about wanting to do my best, and to do justice to the dance itself. 💛 My body: I want to dance with, and be aware of, my whole body, in every moment. Even isolations engage the rest of the body, although it may be still at that particular moment. I’m not always successful with this, but this is what I am working on the most right now! The Dark Salon has provided me with a forum in which to be a bit vulnerable and work on my dancing in new and creative ways. I am so grateful for these opportunities! In this piece, I was working on showing an emotional journey, and allowing that to inform my improvisation. I see some growth in my dance that I’m pleased with, and yet more things that I would like to continue to work on and improve. Because of course, dance itself is a beautiful journey!
