Bellydance by Tiffany

A little lunchtime office practice video on a cold March afternoon. ☘️ I love working on dance in there because the small "dance floor 😁" forces me to fine tune my improvisation around being in a smaller space with little room for travel. This week, I'm trying to work on defined, deliberate movements and an unhurried pace. ❤️ I'm also working on choosing music for upcoming spring and summer shows!

The Dark Salon (in person!) March 2023

Dance has come to mean so many different things to me in my adult life, and the thing about it that is my absolute favorite is how it makes me feel so alive. I’m in touch with my entire self when I dance:

💛 My emotions: I’m excited/nervous/earnest/sweating/joyful all mixed up in one!

💛 My heart: I am so passionate about wanting to do my best, and to do justice to the dance itself.

💛 My body: I want to dance with, and be aware of, my whole body, in every moment. Even isolations engage the rest of the body, although it may be still at that particular moment. I’m not always successful with this, but this is what I am working on the most right now!

The Dark Salon has provided me with a forum in which to be a bit vulnerable and work on my dancing in new and creative ways. I am so grateful for these opportunities! In this piece, I was working on showing an emotional journey, and allowing that to inform my improvisation. I see some growth in my dance that I’m pleased with, and yet more things that I would like to continue to work on and improve. Because of course, dance itself is a beautiful journey!

Reflecting on the close of this year, I am so grateful for:

🥂 My wonderful friends and family.
🥂2 amazing kids who are developing their own unique interests and hobbies, and I’m so in awe of them.
🥂A year of dance in which Zoom allowed me to take more classes and study with more great teachers than ever before! 🥂Bit of a shoutout to Audra Simmons without whom I never would have attempted to make a dance film and stretched myself creatively in this way.
🥂Dancing in person again at sweaty summer festivals with Oasis Binat.
🥂Workweek bracket of Oasis Dance Center classes. ❤️
🥂Restarting weekly ballet classes.
🥂Some great gigs with friendly, enthusiastic families celebrating milestone events.
🥂Signing up for an amazing workshop weekend with Aziza coming in June 2023 🙌

I can’t wait to see what next year brings. More memories, more dance adventures, more learning and creativity. Happy New Year everyone!
