Congratulations to our May employee of the month, Erika. Erika is an important member of the team in our Accessioning Department and works on entering all specimens into our laboratory information system. Erika ensures all cases are entered in a timely and accurate manner to prepare them for our laboratory technologists and technicians. Erika's very positive attitude is appreciated by all departments around the building. Thank you, Erika, for all that you do!

We are so very proud of our employees… they treat every day like Earth Day! 💚

Each department chips in to ensure that cardboard, plastic, and glass are recycled, items are reused to eliminate waste, cans and bottles are recycled and proceeds are donated to a good cause, energy and water are conserved, packaging waste is reduced by buying in bulk, and electronics are disposed of properly.

We would like to introduce a new pathologist in our professional group, Dr. Gregory Kotnis. Dr. Kotnis is trained in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology and has completed fellowship training in cytopathology, quality assurance, and quality improvement. With over 12 years of experience and special interest in head and neck pathology and thoracic pathology, we are confident his background will be incredibly valuable to our group, as well as the physicians and patients we serve in the WNY community and beyond. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Kotnis, welcome to the team!

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT! Congratulations to our March employee of the month, Kayla. Kayla is a Histotechnician in our Histology laboratory and has been with us for about four and a half years. Kayla works hard with her team to ensure all biopsies and surgical samples are embedded, stained, and cut in a timely and efficient manner in order to prepare the case for a pathologist to review. Kayla has also worked in other departments in the laboratory, accessioning and reception, and is always willing to help out wherever she is needed. Some fun facts about Kayla are listed below and we are spending the month recognizing and celebrating her achievements. Thank you, Kayla, for all that you do!

Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month is observed in March to emphasize the importance of screening for colorectal cancer and to promote healthy lifestyle habits that can decrease a person's risk of developing cancer of the colon, re**um, or a**s. Colorectal screening should begin at age 45 in order to detect early warning signs and let physicians take action to prevent disease.
