Preservation Studios assisted with the Part I and Part II of this project, along with listing them on the National Register this year!
Can you believe these are all from the same building from a recent site visit?
Bricks are one type of masonry material used to construct buildings or structures. There are a variety of different colors and types, along with many different brick arrangements that are laid during construction. You can find brick in Neoclassical, Gothic, Art Deco, and more! What is your favorite brick building?
It's official! Our clients have now completed projects totalling over $1 BILLION in QREs. We are thrilled to have been a part of so many amazing projects throughout New York State.
Since 2002, Preservation Studios has specialized in meeting a variety of historic preservation needs. Within the last few years, we have been busy with many projects that include Parkside Candies, The APW Factory, The Polvino Building, and more!
The Miller, Hall & Hartwell Box Factory, located at 558 River Street, Troy New York was originally constructed as a manufacturing facility between 1880 and 1915. This was directly related to work that was produced across the street at 547 River Street, which manufactured textiles. 558 River Street produced the boxes for the distribution of textiles. This building features arched openings, a cast stone beltcourse, and other stone and brick details.
Because of Historic Tax Credits, Governor Hochul announced the completion of 'Bargain Grocery' within the $75 Million Flanigan Square mixed-use development . This project will include 72 Mixed-Income units and 123-unit Senior Housing Facility.
Preservation Studios completed the HPCA Parts 1, 2, and 3 of this project, as well as the nomination to the National Register.
York "
The Dutcher's Foundry and Plough Works building, located at 125 Water Street was constructed in 1808. This building is nestled within the East Side Historic District in the Village of Catskill, New York. From the date of construction until 1952, it remained an industrial building. Many products were shipped throughout the western hemisphere and contributed to the war efforts by supplying precision parts to the U.S. Airforce. After the closure, it became a bookshop, which operated until 2008, when it became vacant.
Historic Tax Credits helped ensure it wasn't abandoned or demolished due to further neglect or damage! Preservation Studios assisted with the HPCA Parts 1, 2, and 3 for this project.
Great coverage of the impacts historic tax credits can have on Buffalo's neighborhoods! Thank you Kevin Hayes - Spectrum News for connecting with our Founder and Director of Municipal Services, Tom Yots!

1076 Elmwood Avenue is a two-and-a-half story frame, multi-family residence including a one-story frame garage. The two-family flats became popular within the Elmwood District during the turn of the twentieth century, where homeowners could earn income while paying down their mortgage.
The Utz and Dunn Shoe Company building, located at 67-89 Canal Street in Rochester, New York.
Originally constructed in 1900 for the Utz & Dunn Shoe Company, which was then succeeded by the W.B. C**n Company who took it over during the 1920s. During the economic hardships of the Great Depression, the factory shut down. The Bravo Macaroni Company operated out of the factory and remained there until the late Ninteenth century. As of recent, the building served as a Volunteers of America Outlet Center and has now been rehabilitated as residential units.
The Weatherhead Building in Albany, New York!
This commercial building was constructed in 1869, with façade reconfigurations occurring in 1913. This commercial building was used as a shoe store, several clothing companies, and as a storefront for Hilton Weatherhead's grocery business.
It has now been rehabilitated for apartments and commercial space. Just look at those windows!

Miller, Hall & Hartwell Factory: one step closer to getting National Register listed after March's State Review Board approval!
Preservation Studios handled the Part 1 and Part 2 of the HPCA as part of this HTC funded project.
During the late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, The Miller, Hall & Hartwell Shirt Collar Factory was significant for their association with textile manufacturing in Troy. Famous for their removable cuff and collar production, this was the principal industry in Troy at the turn of the twentieth century. The city became known nationally for its manufacture of these products, earning it the well known nickname "The Collar City." The factory was constructed in 1880 and expanded in 1891. It employed nearly 3,000 people at the peak of production. It illustrates a combination of two of the prevailing architectural styles of the period, Italianate and Romanesque Revival.
Another great project by Home Leasing, and an amazing transformation for this historic factory turned auto dealership!
As always, it's incredible to be part of these revivals, especially when they help create affordable housing for communities across New York State!
Spotlight on a project just approved at the New York State Review Board: Fitzgerald Brewery, 500 River St, Troy NY
With almost as many breweries as churches at one point, The Fitzgerald Brewery was one of the oldest and largest in Troy, NY. In 1866 Edmund Fitzgerald purchased a pre-existing brewery. Later, brothers Michael and John joined to mostly distribute other beverages out of the facility. In 1870 Edmund and John started to brew their own beer. This is where Fitzgerald’s beer would be produced. Because of the large quantities of production, they eventually expanded across the street where a larger building was constructed. Like any other brewery, Fitzgerald’s had to reinvent themselves during the prohibition. Eventually, years later they were able to resume production until a fire broke out at the main brewery house in 1964. While the bottling plant has remained, it has been a warehouse for furniture and now a self storage facility.
Preservation Studios has handled Part 1 and Part 2 of the HPCA as part of this Historic Tax Credit funded project.
The Tatler Club in Niagara Falls is on its way to being listed on the National Register after approval at the March State Review Board!
The club was part of the national Women’s Club Movement, which started in the late 1860s and continued through the 1920s, providing a platform for women to express opinions, exchange ideas, take progressive community action and hold leadership roles unconstrained by male influence or interference.
In 1956, the Tatler Club purchased the former residence of Alice and Peter A. Porter, at 6 Fourth St., which had been constructed in 1876, and remodeled the building to meet the needs of the organization while also preserving its historic fabric. The Tatler Club continues to operate out of the Porter Mansion today.
Preservation Studios is assisting the Tatler club with grant writing and administration related improvements made possible by being listed on the National Register.
Always fun to see some of our projects mid-transformation! Excited to be working with Home Leasing on this great project in Schenectady!
We are excited that our first ever nomination in Poughkeepsie, the Wallace Company Department Store, was approved at this month's State Review Board! Preservation Studios also handled the Part 1 and Part 2 of the HPCA as part of this HTC funded project.
The Poughkeepsie Wallace Department Store reflects the century-long evolution of American Main Streets. From small shops, to centrally located department stores, and then with an increase of auto-centric shopping centers and malls.
We're SO excited to have had four nominations approved at New York's Quarterly Review Board last week!
Tatler Club, Niagara Falls, NY
Fitzgerald Brewery, 500 River St, Troy, NY
Miller, Hall and Hartwell Factory, 547 River St, Troy, NY
