Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks the profound moment in history when the chains of slavery were broken, and freedom was proclaimed for the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, in 1865.
At the Buffalo City Mission, we believe in the inherent value of every human life. Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone; it’s a celebration of the triumph of love over oppression, freedom over bo***ge. It’s a powerful reminder of the relentless spirit that seeks healing and hope amidst adversity.
As we reflect on this day, we are reminded of our mission to bring love, healing, and hope to those who need it most. Just as Juneteenth symbolizes the breaking of physical chains, we strive to break the chains of homelessness, addiction, and despair, offering a path to hope and renewal.
Today, let’s celebrate the power of love and the enduring promise of freedom. Together, we continue to work toward a world where every soul can experience the liberation and love that Juneteenth represents. 🙌🏽❤️
We are all blessed with a heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally. God, our ultimate Father, sent His only Son, Jesus, to lay down His life for us, showcasing a love beyond measure, and providing us with an example of what we can be as Father’s.
This past weekend, we had the profound privilege of honoring the incredible men at our Buffalo City Mission Men’s Facility for Father’s Day. Regardless of where you are or the challenges life throws your way… you never stop being a father.
As we reflect on this special day, we are profoundly grateful to serve and support these remarkable fathers, inspired by the greatest love of all—our Father in Heaven.

We are often asked while giving tours at the Buffalo City Mission facilities who the main demographic we serve consists of. This question in particular is one of our favorites, because there is only one answer. People. We serve and love people through our services, shelter, and warm meals that we offer each and every day of the year.
Regardless of race, nationality or economic upbringing, we are blessed to be able to serve anyone who walks through our doors thanks to the generosity of individuals like you.
All month long, we celebrate Black History Month in multiple ways and with events within our facilities as a show of respect, and we are thankful for the opportunity to serve them.
“To serve and bless others is a blessing unto us as well.”

Buffalo City Mission, est. 1917
For over 100 years, Buffalo City Mission has been reaching out to the poor, the downcast and the homeless. Our ministry began in June 1917, when baseball-hero-turned-evangelist Billy Sunday made a gift of $8,400 to the Buffalo Evangelistic Association, with the direction that a Rescue Mission should be opened. Rev. and Mrs. Edward Clark led the effort, establishing City Mission Society (now known as Buffalo City Mission) that fall.
In the early years, services focused on providing food, shelter and clothing. Since then, the Mission’s work has expanded to include programs that address the growing tragedies of substance abuse and family homelessness. Your generosity has allowed us to meet the changing needs of those burdened by the hardships of life.
As our local community’s needs grew, our facilities have grown as well. In 1984, Buffalo City Mission moved into a new building at 100 E. Tupper, where administrative offices and the Men’s Community Center are located today. In 2006, the Mission opened its new Cornerstone Manor for Women and Children that houses this vulnerable population. In 2017, the Mission announced that they would be building a brand new Community Center, to be built in the parking lot of their current aging Mens Center. This new building will be a recovery engineered facility designed to face the needs of our community today and into the future. The goal is simple: the Mission wants nothing less than to effectively provide each person who is experiencing homelessness in Buffalo, and those who are on the brink of becoming homeless, with the very best holistic care and the unique opportunity to shorten their cycle of poverty. It may sound daunting, but it is doable; and this new facility is at the center of how they plan to achieve it. With the help of community partners like this, this new Community Center is set to open in the Spring of 2020.
Through the years, much has changed. But one thing stays the same…the gracious generosity that reaches out to people in desperate need. Thank you for your time, your prayers and your support. With your continued help, this outpouring of God’s grace will be available to those who are hurting in the Buffalo community.
