We'd like to congratulate Pnida Ratarasan, a visual development artist, illustrator and character designer who won the 'Exhibiting Artist Award' through the CTN Foundation. A Next Gen initiative through the Foundation awarded to those who applied in 2023. Post eXpo the foundation asked her a few questions about her experience winning the scholarship award and exhibiting at CTNX2023. We are so excited to see what she does next! Honestly we are the miraculous result of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our paths to cross. From being born at this time, to finding your way to our art form and for all your experiences along the way to culminate right now gives us the deep belonging we recognize in each other. Across various boundaries, time zones and cultures honing our connection to each other and those who came before gives us all a sense of belonging and wholeness.

KEEP PLANTING: Everything you see is created, made, and/or otherwise came into being because of some form of a creative seed. Some kind of an idea, notion, hunch, or inspiration which unknowingly does hold the DNA that manifests itself into a result for all to see. Like what Walt Disney did, or the Beatles, or Tim Burton or many other seeds on the landscape that sprouted.

The magic extra superpower fertilizer is:

-You'll f**k up a lot.
-Get ignored a lot.
-Get rejected a lot.
-Have no social life.
-Be up at weird hours.
-Go to bed at weird hours.
-Spend a lot of time creating.
-Realize nobody understands.
-Overthink everything.

But you keep going. Every thought is a seed. This is not just an intellectual concept it is a physical reality and a creative right. Intentionally casting about, cross pollinating, utilizing cross-over creativity, hybrid mash ups, making a million mistakes or whatever you want to call the process, the creative superpower fertilizer, or energy or whatever you call it is always germinating your ideas and always looking to get them to take hold. Whatever they are. Whether intentionally or not. The best way to predict the future is to keep intentionally planting seeds because they are going to grow anyway. If you don't design by intent you will get design by default. You Got This!

Meet the amazing Owen Klatte who keeps growing. You might know Owen from his professional work on "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "James and the Giant Peach" and many other well loved feature films. But Owen was initially drawn to animation by the wonderfully strange and beautiful independent films seen in international film festivals. "Of Wood" is Klatte's first independent animation project since college, fulfilling a decades-old dream.

Coming up on 15 years. We're a teenager. Hahah. :)

According to Merriam-Webster, courage is mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.

While confidence is a feeling or consciousness of one's powers or of reliance on one's circumstances.

The trick to all of this is to do something that you are a little not ready to do. During those moments when you think, 'Wow, I'm not really sure I can do this,' and go through that door anyway you then realize, that's where you've experienced all breakthroughs. On the other side of that door.

What do these words mean to you, and how does cultivating courage and confidence impact your life as an artist and your work? You do make the difference.

A look back at 2012 when we were only 3 years old. Just a baby still learning how to walk properly. :)
