Get ready for a BRAND NEW ADVENTURE at River Festivus 2024!

Our 𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐔𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐍 𝐑𝐔𝐍 (sponsored by Sulphur Creek Resort & Marina) is an ‘Amazing Race’ style quest that will take competitors from the banks of the Mighty Cumberland into the hills and hollows of our stunning surroundings to find clues, solve puzzles, and complete wild, family-friendly challenges!

Teams of two will compete in a trek across the county using a list of designated ‘road block’ locations. At each destination, the teams must complete their choice of tasks, and collect a passport to move on to the next location. Some tasks are physical, some are mental, but all are inclusive to a wide range of capabilities. When teams have collected their final passport ticket, they’ll dash back to River Festivus headquarters to compete in one Final Challenge. The first three teams to accomplish this mission will win some AMAZING prizes and be announced on stage at our Battle of the Bands!

• 𝟏𝐒𝐓 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄: FREE 3-Night stay in a private cabin at Sulphur Creek Resort, FREE pontoon rental from Sulphur Creek Marina, AND $500 CASH

Please make plans to attend the second Cumberland County Trivia Night beginning at 6:00 PM this evening. A second round starts at 6:30 PM. Watch the RDI and Chamber pages for any weather-related updates. If the First Fridays event is postponed or cancelled, the trivia night will be also.

•Trivia in the Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center, organized by the Civics Club!
•Kids canvas painting at Bill Guffey’s Art Studio
•Cumberland County Public Library and our County Courthouse will be open!

• Due to scheduling conflicts, our musical guest had to cancel. We will be back next month with live music though! 

AND…
• We are kicking off our RDI business passport campaign tomorrow night! Passports will be free (one/household) and you will have until Sept. 1 to visit 10 of the 18 participating businesses. If you complete the task, return your passports to us at the September First Friday, you will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize (which is worth over $500 in prizes from local shops)!

We had musical guests come in from Michigan looking for great experiences. The Concetta De Bed & Breakfast treated them wonderful. Fantastic breakfast daily. Even came and supported them as they played a couple hours up at The Quarry Restaurant at Weir Mountain. Who, also, had a great show of support by them as well! We sent them to Southern Kentucky Distillery who also gave them an excellent experience with tastings and allowing them to play. The scenery at Sounds Good was right up their ally and the food was very well liked too. What a great small business community we have here. Be sure to check them all out.

Annually, as part of the River Festivus, a battle of the bands is held. The competition is now on underway. Go and vote for who you would like to hear live on the big stage.

Competition is open to solo and group acts, original and cover material, and all genres of music. Please keep in mind that this is a family community event; obscene or vulgar material will not be accepted.

Entry deadline is June 1, 2024. The Top 5 entries that will perform LIVE at the Battle of the Bands will be determined by public voting on Facebook. Voting will begin June 21 and end July 19, 2024. Facebook voting will consist of ‘Like’ and ‘Love’ reactions to each entry’s photo that will be posted on the River Festivus page, along with links to the entry video, other submitted videos, music, social media, website, etc. ONLY VOTES SUBMITTED ON THE ORIGINAL RIVER FESTIVUS POST WILL BE TALLIED TO DETERMINE THE TOP 5.

Top 5 entries will be announced on July 22, 2024. A list of rules, regulations, and scoring criteria for the live competition will be sent to those acts after the public announcement has been made.

TOP 5 ENTRIES WILL PERFORM IN A LIVE COMPETITION IN BURKESVILLE, KY ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 16, 2024. Each band in the Top 5 will have 45 minutes on stage. Each band will complete their sound check and performance during that allotted time. Order of performance will be determined by a random draw. A house kit consisting of drum set and bass amp will be provided for the competition, as well as professional stage lighting and sound.
