Come see how rock is quarried and then processed into different cuts, shapes and sizes! Black River Quarries owner Heath Blackburn will provide a guided tour of the quarry and processing facilities.
Black River Quarries processes natural stone, wall stone, thin stone veneer, patio, and landing stone products. They cater to residential and commercial clients and supply to landscape designers, contractors, developers and builders. This is a great opportunity for landscape architects and allied professionals to better understand and see firsthand the process behind the stone we specify in our projects.
In addition to the tour, there will be snacks and cold drinks! The event is free.
Please let us know if you are attending by RSVPing at vtasla.org or in the link in bio.
Awesome day at in Dummerston VT participating in the Landscape Architect/Designer Introductory Workshop. We learned the basics of dry laid stone wall building principles, toured beautifully crafted walls by highly certified builders, and took down and rebuilt a dry laid stone wall as a group. It was a great activity to do in spring as projects start to be built and very helpful to learn the language of stone masons when communicating during construction.
It was also great to meet designers from across New England who made the trip!

Three of our members spent the morning at a local elementary school engaging with girls from grades K—4 in “Introduce a Girl to Landscape Architecture” initiative as part of the STEM Literacy Through Design. We got to read four books in landscape architecture and design themes, discuss the design process, do some real site assessment outside, and develop concept plans for a new play area containing hill slides, pathways, benches, a stage, and even an ice cream truck. The future is bright… and sweet!
Thanks to Erica from , Emily from , and Tom from for your time volunteering with the school this morning!

Our own Senator Patrick Leahy received an honorary membership, which recognizes persons other than landscape architects whose achievements of national or international significance or influence have provide notable service to the profession. During his more than 40 years in Congress, Senator Leahy continually showed good stewardship of our environment, one of the basic tenets of landscape architecture, through his sponsored legislation and voting record. He has supported the farm to table movement, the Historic Landscape Survey, funding for bicycle and pedestrian projects, and providing permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The list goes on!
