What is a Collapsed Disc?

A collapsed disc occurs when the discs of the spine lose their normal height over time due to disc degeneration or reduction of the fibrous outer wall. A collapsed disc can also happen because of the natural aging process, spinal arthritis, or due to an injury.

Spinal arthritis, or osteoarthritis, and degenerative disc disease are the most common causes of a collapsed disc. To a lesser degree, the affected patient may be suffering from a collapsed disc resulting from a bulging or herniated disc.

The severity of a collapsed disc varies. In fact, some people may not experience any initial symptoms from a collapsed disc. But if the disc begins interfering with the surrounding nerves in the spine, serious complications can result.

Learn more: https://inspiredspine.com/conditions-treatments/conditions/collapsed-discs/

We are dedicated to a conservative back pain treatment path, utilizing spinal surgery only when absolutely necessary. Less than 10% of Inspired Spine patients are prescribed surgery for their spinal condition.

Our mission is to help individuals reclaim their lives from the debilitating effects of chronic pain. We are thrilled to share a recent success story that highlights the transformative power of minimally invasive spine surgery.

Our patient was suffering from severe, chronic lower back pain that had drastically impacted their daily life. After a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Abbasi recommended an L1-L3 interbody fusion surgery, a minimally invasive procedure designed to stabilize the spine and alleviate pain.

What is L1-L3 Interbody Fusion Surgery?

This advanced surgical technique involves fusing the vertebrae between the first and third lumbar segments (L1-L3) using specialized interbody cages. These cages help maintain the proper spacing and alignment of the vertebrae, promoting bone growth and stability. The procedure is performed through small incisions, minimizing tissue damage and leading to a quicker recovery.

Why Choose Minimally Invasive Surgery?

Minimally invasive procedures like the L1-L3 interbody fusion offer numerous benefits over traditional surgery, including:
- Reduced Pain: Smaller incisions lead to less postoperative pain and faster healing.
- Quicker Recovery: Patients typically experience shorter hospital stays and a faster return to normal activities.
- Improved Outcomes: Advanced techniques ensure precise results, promoting long-term stability and relief.

If you or a loved one are suffering from chronic back pain, we encourage you to reach out to us at Inspired Spine. Our team, led by Dr. Abbasi, specializes in minimally invasive treatments that can help you regain your quality of life.

Contact us at (612) 200-3748 to learn more about our innovative procedures and how we can assist you on your journey to a pain-free life.

Dr. Abbasi was hosting an exclusive lab session focused on the revolutionary Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLLIF) technique. This hands-on lab offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn from one of the foremost authorities in the field and to gain practical experience with cutting-edge surgical techniques.

During this lab, Dr. Abbasi will provide detailed instruction on the OLLIF procedure, including:

- Imaging Techniques: Participants will gain insights into interpreting imaging used during the OLLIF procedure. The imaging on the right side of the screen represents the Anteroposterior (AP) view, while the imaging on the left side shows the Lateral view. Understanding these perspectives is crucial for accurate navigation and successful outcomes.

- Dilating the Intervertebral Space: Dr. Abbasi will demonstrate the process of dilating the intervertebral space, a critical step in the OLLIF procedure. This involves carefully expanding the space between the vertebrae to access the disc material.

- Removing the Disc and Placing the Cage: The lab will showcase the precise technique for extracting the degenerated disc material and positioning the interbody fusion cage. This step is essential for restoring spine stability and alleviating pain.

This lab is designed for spine surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other medical professionals seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in minimally invasive spine surgery.

Don't miss this chance to elevate your surgical expertise and stay at the forefront of medical innovation. Join Dr. Abbasi and the Inspired Spine team for this transformative lab experience.

SI Joint Dysfunction is a common yet often misunderstood condition that can significantly impact a person's quality of life.

The sacroiliac (SI) joint is located between the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine) and the ilium (part of the pelvis). SI Joint Dysfunction occurs when this joint becomes inflamed or damaged, leading to pain and reduced mobility.

SI Joint Dysfunction can develop gradually over time or suddenly due to an injury. Common scenarios include:
- Aging: Degenerative changes in the joint can occur with age.
- Athletic Activities: High-impact sports and activities that strain the lower back and pelvis.
- Accidents and Trauma: Direct impacts to the pelvis or lower back.
- Pregnancy and Childbirth: Hormonal changes and physical stress during pregnancy.

A lumbar microdiscectomy, also known as microdecompression, is a minimally invasive spinal surgery performed to provide nerve decompression associated with a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease.

In most cases, a herniated disc will heal after conservative treatments. Approximately 10% of patients with a herniated disc or degenerative disc disease should be considered for a microdiscectomy, only when conservative treatments prove ineffective.
