Join us, Wed., July 24 (Free. Virtual only). Many of our western Pennsylvania immigrant ancestors had direct or indirect connections to coal mining. Our guest, Mary Kay Zuravleff, will share how her family history and documents served as the historical underpinnings for her novel, American Ending. It’s a gritty and darkly humorous novel inspired by Mary Kay’s family of immigrants, of the Old Believer Russian Orthodox faith who mined coal in Appalachia. Her book was an Oprah Spring Book Pick and a finalist for the Langum Prize in American Historical Fiction. Register for the free Zoom link, CranberryGenealogy.org

Thank you! The Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society (WPGS) has digitized over 28,500 Allegheny County death records from 1893-2005.
For the first time, key death records from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania are available online, free to the public on the WPGS website. These death registers represent a short, but crucial period prior to Pennsylvania requiring death certificates in 1906. The records span the years 1893-1905 and cover over one hundred Allegheny County municipalities not previously microfilmed. While death records from Pittsburgh and a few other municipalities had already been online, this project brings easy access to all the other municipalities in Allegheny County, from Millvale and McKeesport to Braddock and Bridgeville and beyond.
