Who knew a virtual museum tour could lead to a heartwarming reunion?

to 2020, during a virtual museum tour, Pat shared that she donated some Geisha dolls to The Maridon Museum years before. She had received them from a pen pal in Japan. We were delighted to be able to share photos of the dolls! Pat was over the moon to be "reunited" with these cherished items.

At the entrance to the Front Gallery, you'll be greeted by the majestic Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. This stunning sculpture stands 48 inches tall and 24 inches wide, carved from Indian elephant ivory in the 20th century. https://bit.ly/44da5P9

Guanyin is flanked by two mirror-image Indian elephant ivory curved tusk forms carved into feng huang (phoenix birds). These 47 inches tall and 20 inches wide, these intricate tusks are also 20th-century Chinese creations.

Together, these pieces create a breathtaking display that has stood guard at the museum's entrance since Mrs. Phillips' home, a testament to her love for art and culture. We hope you stop by. We’re open Wednesday- Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

My pup and I traveled from Meissen, Germany, around 1830-1840. We found our forever home with Mary Hulton Phillips, the founder of The Maridon Museum, in 1999.

Mrs. Phillips loved porcelain pugs so much that she dedicated an entire gallery to us! In 2018, I was featured in a special exhibit, "Year of the Dog."
