MCDONALD'S CALHOUN HOLDING FAMILY BACK-TO-SCHOOL DAY; RONALD MCDONALD CARE MOBILE ON SITE, 4 PC. NUGGET HAPPY MEALS FOR $4: Next Wednesday, July 17th, join in the fun at McDonald's of Calhoun, located at 749 Hwy 53 East SE in Calhoun for their Family Back-to-School day, which will include the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and other deals.

The services the Care Mobile provides include Ear, Eye, Dental Screenings, Asthma Care, Sports Physicals, and Hygiene Kits. Kids and teens are welcome, ages 3 to 18.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ups are welcome. A parent or legal guardian must be present and have valid ID to receive services.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER EVENT SET FOR MAY 2 AT ADVENTHEALTH GORDON: AdventHealth Gordon, together with team members, community members and local leaders, will celebrate the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2 at 12 noon. The public is invited to join the local hospital to pray for our community, leaders and the world.

The annual event will again be held in front of the Edna Owens Breast Center at AdventHealth Gordon and will feature hospital and community leaders who will lead prayers for our community, families, churches and our country.

ANNUAL GORDON COUNTY HUNGER WALK RAISES THOUSANDS FOR COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRIES: The 14th annual Gordon County Hunger Walk was held October 21st. Organizers raised just under $5,000 and the Gordon County Ministerial Alliance will round up from their funds so that each food bank - Blewer, First Fruits, God's Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul and the VAC - each receive a check for $1,000.

The Gordon County Ministerial Alliance would like to thank local businesses that contributed: Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, Thomas Funeral Home, Edward Jones, Grooms Agency, Pete's Music City, Crowley Drug and CVS for donating bottled water once again this year. Churches that donated include Reeves Baptist, New Echota United Methodist, Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist, First Fruits, God's Pantry, Sisters in His Flock (community Bible Study), Plainville Unity Baptist and Calhoun First United Methodist.
More than 30 walkers signed in on walk day at the Calhoun Rec Center on McDaniel Station Road to participate.

DON’T FORGET! 14TH ANNUAL HUNGER WALK TO BE HELD THIS SATURDAY: The 14th annual Gordon County Hunger Walk will be Saturday, October 21st.

Hunger Walk is a fundraiser that benefits five local food banks: Blewer Food Center, First Fruits Ministries, Saint Vincent de Paul, Seventh-day Adventist Food Pantry and the Voluntary Action Center.

The walk will take place at the Calhoun Recreation Center on McDaniel Station Rd. Registration for the walk and donation drop off will begin at 2:30 p.m. on walk day at the Black & Gold park pavilion and the walk will begin at 3 p.m. Hunger Walk is sponsored by the Gordon County Christian Ministerial Alliance.

Every dollar raised goes to the food banks and the total is divided equally. Checks can also be mailed and donations can be made online; look for the Ministerial Alliance page or contact Alliance President Clark Bunch at [email protected] for details.

🎃🚒🚓🚑👻GORDON COUNTY 911 RESPONDER MEET & TREAT TO BE HELD OCT. 31: Gordon County 911 will be hosting a First Responder Meet & Treat at the 911 Center, located at 100 Nine One One Blvd. in Calhoun, on Tuesday, October 31 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Local public safety and first responders will be set up in 911's parking lot, allowing tours of vehicles and handing out goodies for trick or treaters. Participating this year are AdventHealth Gordon EMS, Gordon County Sheriff's Office, Calhoun Police Department, Gordon County Fire Department, Calhoun Fire Department and Gordon County EMA along with E9-1-1 Dispatchers. Tours of the 911 Center will be provided by request only.

The public is invited to come out to 911 this Halloween to meet their local heroes and get some good treats!

🎄VAC CHRISTMAS PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: Christmas Applications are now being accepted at the Voluntary Action Center, located at 343 South Wall Street in Calhoun. Applications accepted through November 22.

The VAC partners with AdventHealth EMS to help provide a Merry Christmas to children living in Gordon County. In addition to providing toys and clothing to children, the VAC also provides a grocery gift card to each family to help with a Christmas meal.

To qualify, parents/guardians must fall within 140% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Parents/Guardians are also required to complete two online classes to qualify. Parents seeking assistance for their children for Christmas must complete Financial Education Classes offered here at the Voluntary Action Center. These classes are offered in partnership with Truist. Applications for Christmas Assistance will only be distributed to class attendees.
