Robert (Bob) Gene Less, 82, of Clarksburg, MO passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 in the presence of his loving family. He was born on February 10, 1942 in Franklin County, MO to Albert Less and Bessie (Brizendine) Less who preceded him in death. Bob was later united in marriage on Jan 2, 1965 to Nancy (Theiss) Less at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Bob was a United States Army Veteran. He worked for the Missouri Dept. of Transportation where he had various jobs that included Auger Operator, Depth Drill Operator and Laboratory Technician which totaled more than 30 years for the state of Missouri. He enjoyed spending time with his family and really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. He is survived by his wife Nancy Less of 59 years of the home; two sons, Randy Less (Connie) of Jefferson City, MO and Rodney Less of Clarksburg, MO; six grandchildren, Peydon Less of Russellville, MO, Taryn Less (Bryce) Knoxville, TN, Rylea Less of Jefferson City, MO, Breydan Less (Britney) of Jefferson City, Caleb Lallement of St. Petersburg, FL, Cameron Lallement (Ally) of Seminole, FL and 7 great grandchildren. Albert “Teddy” Theodore Bolinger, 70, of California, MO passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024 in the presence of his family. He was born on August 4, 1954 at the Latham Hospital the son of Albert Ray Bolinger and Frances Lee “Frankie” Kirchoff both of whom preceded him in death. Teddy attended Latham Elementary School and graduated from California High School in 1972. He was united in marriage on September 3, 1977 at Flag Spring Baptist Church to Peggy Sperry who survives of the home. He was a active member and elder at Flag Spring Baptist Church. His work career started in high school loading turkeys at night for Ralston Purina, after high school in his younger years he worked for Vogel Dairy Farm then went to work for Western Well Pump and Layne Western drilling irrigation wells traveling through many states. He lastly returned to the farm and raised turkeys for 27 years for Cargill and was currently still working on the family farm. Teddy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, member of the 20 Club, golfing, auctions, garage sales, sale barns, drinking his morning coffee and visiting with his friends, St. Louis Cardinals, watching Westerns and gardening. He was a talented carpenter, jack of all trades and his big enjoyment in life was showing livestock and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Teddy is survived by his wife Peggy Bolinger of the home; daughter, Sarah Bolinger; son, Wesley Bolinger (Miranda); 2 brothers, Jake Bolinger (Mickie) and Tony Bolinger (Marilyn); sister, Pamela Carpenter; 3 grandchildren, Emma Jane Batye, Albert Mason Bolinger and Henley RaeAnn Bolinger; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Robert Bolinger; his mother and father in-law, Thomas and Wilma Sperry; 2 sister in-laws, Petricia Ward and Carol Hartley, 2 brother-in laws Larry Carpenter and Jim Hartley. Ulysses (Sonny) Dean, 85, of California, MO passed away peacefully on Sunday August 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on March 28, 1939 in Cairo, MO. He was united in marriage in 1957 to Barbara J. Gilmore of Peoria, IL. He spent his life as an Iron worker and superintendent for American Bridge. He was also a member of the California Eagles #4027. He is survived by his wife Barbara Dean of the home; three children, Tammy Kirchoff (Jim), Tawnie Monroe (Mike), and Kenny Dean (Kathy) all of the California area; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Kevan Dean of California, MO on March 16, 2023. There will be a private family memorial service with Rev. Larry Marriott officiating. Bryan David Hampton, 58, of California, Missouri, passed away on July 25th, at the University of Missouri Hospital, after a short battle with lung cancer. Bryan was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Bryan was born on September 8, 1965, to David and Sherry Hampton. After graduating from California High School in 1985, Bryan married Sharron Helmig of California and they had a son, Jacob Hampton.
Bryan was an avid race car fan and enjoyed attending car shows in the area. He was a God-fearing man who leaned strongly on faith and the power of prayer. His contagious smile, infectious laugh and unwavering sense of humor, will be greatly missed.
In 2002, Bryan married Sherry (Jungmeyer) Hampton, of California. Bryan and Sherry enjoyed attending ball games and races together. Bryan was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry, on December 28, 2022.
Bryan is survived by his parents David and Sherry Hampton (California), son Jacob Hampton (Jefferson City), brother Lance Hampton and wife Shelly (California), sister Angela Flippin (Kansas City), in laws Don and Carol Jungmeyer (California), two stepdaughters, one niece and three nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Mike and Ruby Martin and Bruce and Euda Hampton.
To honor Bryan’s memory, a visitation will be on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 10:00 AM-12:00 Noon with the funeral immediately following; all at the California United Methodist Church in California, MO. Bobby G. Hall, 61, of Centertown, MO passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born on May 30, 1963 in Columbia, MO the son of Howard d. and Kathlene (Dorsey) Hall both of whom preceded him in death. He attended California R-1 school, was a member of the 4-H in McGirk and was a lifelong farmer. Bobby was saved at the age 48 at the Lebanon Baptist Church in McGirk where he was a member. He worked at Cargill Turkey Plant, when he was 19 on the Catching crew from 1982-84. He worked at Stride Rite Shoe Factory from 1985-91 as a Security Guard, then worked for different security companies for many years obtaining the title of Security supervisor and rank of Lieutenant. He started his most recent job in 2022 working as a jailor at the Moniteau County Jail in California, MO. He was proud and enjoyed spending time with his niece. He is survived by his sister, Debbie Wierman (Mike) of Tipon, MO. and niece, Chelsey “Nicky” Hall of Boonville, MO. George Forrest Harlan, 68, of Jefferson City formerly of Jamestown, MO passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Mary’s Health Ctr. in Jefferson City, MO. He was born on September 6, 1955 in McGirk the son of Charles Harlan and Geneva (Kratscmar) Harlan both of whom preceded him in death. George was a graduate of Jamestown High School. He was united in marriage on September 30, 1998 in Cebu City, Philipines to Maria (Canedo) Harlan who survives of the home. George worked and retired from ABB in Jefferson City. He enjoyed attending his children’s sports events, classic rock, his classic cars, riding his motorcycle, traveling and spending time with his family. Joyce Kay McNeal, 81, of Syracuse, MO passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 7, 1943 in St. Louis, MO the daughter of Roy Katzung and Eileen (Hines) Katzung both of whom preceded her in death. Joyce was united in marriage in St. Louis, MO on January 21, 1961 to Kenneth Ray McNeal who preceded her in death on April 3, 2007. Joyce was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. She loved being with her grandchildren. Fredrick C. Bleich, 84, of Lohman passed away peacefully on Sunday July 7, 2024.

Fredrick was born to Earnest Theodore and Louise Alvina (Strobel) Bleich on September 9, 1939. He was Baptized and Confirmed into the Lutheran faith and was a current member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in California, MO.

He was united in marriage to Darlene Wallenmeyer on June 18, 1966. They shared 58 years together.

Fredrick was a lifelong farmer, who loved to hunt and trap. He raised cattle, and liked driving his tractors and dozer. He was a man of faith and loved God with all his heart.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Bleich of the home. Other survivors include 4 children, Gary Bleich of Lohman, Larry Bleich (Misty) of Lohman, Sherry Adams (Doug) of Sedalia, and Carolyn Hurt (Kevin) of Jamestown, 3 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul Bleich and Edward Bleich both of California, MO, and one sister, Martha Toellner of Warrensburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Louise Bleich, sisters Anna Bleich, Esther Strobel, Velma Strobel, Ruth Wieland, and Nelda Bleich along with 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10:00 A.M.-12 Noon with the funeral service immediately following at 12 Noon all at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. David Lee Opel, 67 of California, MO passed away on July 2, 2024, at the home of his niece Jennifer Locke in Holt’s Summit, MO after a long illness.

David was born to Sylvan Frank Opel and Wilma Lorene (Seyfert) Opel in Chandler, AZ while Sylvan was serving with US Air Force at Williams Air Force Base. David gained a little sister, Brenda, during their time in Arizona. His family moved back to California, MO and a few years later, he became an older brother again to Alan. David lost his parents, Sylvan and Wilma to cancer when young and the siblings were taken in by their Aunt and Uncle, Lawrence and Mildred (Seyfert) Maier to live on their farm southeast of California, MO. Under their guardianship, David helped on the farm, worshiped on Sundays with the family and was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and attended public school at California R1, graduating in 1975. After High School, he attended State Fair Community College in Sedalia, MO graduating with an associate’s degree in Drafting in 1977.

After college, David’s career included employment at Fischer Pool Table factory in Tipton, MO (Draftsman), Westinghouse, in Jefferson City (Draftsman), Tipton Prison (Corrections Officer), Burger’s Smokehouse, and then Security at State of Missouri National Guard until his retirement on June 1, 2023.

David was married to Debbie Ann Lister on May 14, 1988, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in California, MO, taking residence for a few years in Kliever, MO before moving to their current home in California, MO.

David enjoyed being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took pride in helping people through his service with the California Rural Fire Association as a Fire Fighter and First Responder. David is remembered by his outgoing personality and the knack for remembering everyone’s names and faces, making him a stranger to no one! He had a great memory for reminiscing or giving directions leading some to call him “GPS David”!

David is survived by his wife Debbie Ann Opel of California, MO, his brother Alan Wayne Opel and brother in-law Matthew DeLoera of Lee’s Summit, MO, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sylvan and Wilma Opel, Lawrence and Mildred Maier (Uncle/Aunt as guardians), and his sister Brenda Lea Opel.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 10:00 A.M.to 12 Noon with the Funeral Service following at 12 Noon all at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, 100 S. Oak St., California, MO. 65018. Interment will be at the California City Cemetery, on Old HWY 50 East of California.

Nick L. Morris, 71, of California, MO passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Nick was born on June 19, 1953 in St. Charles, MO the eldest son of Melvin and Nancy (Regot) Morris. He married his soulmate and love of his life Janet Dameron. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 with his parent’s permission. He served a four year enlistment sailing around the world on the USS Prairie. He crossed the equator twice, earning the “Shellback” award. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, both on land and at sea. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Nick was an accomplished drummer. Music was his love, he always said that music could calm the savage beast. He played in many local bands beginning during high school and well into his adult life. He became a perfectionist when it came to autobody repair, where he worked for 50 years. He loved painting cars and motorcycles after repairing them. He also loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and was known to ride with the wind. Nick was an avid sports fan, especially NASCAR and football. His favorite football team was the Las Vegas Raiders. This created a loving rivalry between Nick and Janet due to her favorite team being the Pittsburg Steelers. Nick completed his GED and furthered his education by attending Metro Business College in Jefferson City, MO. He earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Management and Computer Specialist. Nick is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, nine children, Shawn Morris of Marshall, MO; Marisa (Tim) Mitchell, Yavanna (Daniel) Blanke all of California, MO; Megan (Aaron) Large of Overland Park, KS; John (Becca) Forbis of Mt. Juliet, TN; Joel (Julia) Morris of Camdenton, MO; Amanda (Michael) Scaringello of Richland, MO; Matthew (Ga’briel) Morris of Smithton, MO; and Destinee (Bryan) Morgan of Muskogee, OK; 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild. Phyllis Bowles, 67, of California, MO passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO. She was born on August 8, 1956 at the family home near Latham, MO the daughter of Charlie Bowles and Evelyn (Jobe) Bowles both of whom preceded her in death. Phillis was a Med. Tech. at the California Care Ctr., she worked for Mid Mo Ambulance and many nursing homes across Central Missouri. She loved her precious dog Snowy. Sherry Lynn (Pruitt) Elliott, 67, of Lake Ozark, MO passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at her home. She was born on October 28, 1956 in Jefferson City, MO the daughter of Wayne Edward Pruitt and Laura Marie (Vernon) Pieper. She was united in marriage on August 13, 1977 at the First Christian Church in California, MO to Mark Elliott Sr. Sherry worked for Ryder Student Transportation in Sedalia, MO for many years and School of the Osage for over 20 years as a bus driver. She was a wonderful cook and would always enjoy cooking her Southern and Custom dishes. She had fun camping with her husband and friends, also taking trips to the deep south and Las Vegas. Sherry thoroughly enjoyed putting out all of her collectible decorations for Christmas for her friends and family to see. She had a love for singing and music that led her traveling across the Midwest singing for the Elliott Family Southern Gospel Group. Sherry was a very tough but gentle person, but was the most giving person you could ask for. Her life revolved around her love for the Lord, her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchild. She was born on May 14, 1942 in California, MO the daughter of Albert Reed Sr. and Opal (Bolinger) Reed both of whom preceded her in death. She was later united in marriage on January 10, 1959 in Clarksburg, MO to Vernon Elliott whom preceded her in death on May 21, 2003. Patricia worked for Lamy’s Levi Factory in Sedalia for 36 years. She was a member of Mainstreet Baptist Church. Patricia enjoyed fishing, hunting and her yard work. Vencil Paul Hees, 92, of California, MO passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 31, 1932, the son of Argo and Margie (Kelsay) Hees. Vencil was united in marriage on February 23, 1963 in California, MO to Joyce Roll who survives of the home. Vencil worked and retired after 34 years from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Vencil served in the United States Army and was in the Korean War. Vencil enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, barbecuing and NASCAR. His greatest love and enjoyment in life was his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Joyce, Vencil is survived by his children, Dennis (Rhonda) Hees of Tipton, MO; Cathy Hees of California, MO; David (Carrie Northway) Hees of Jefferson City, MO; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Erma Jean Stark of Jefferson City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Murrel Hees and one sister Elsie Flippin. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 10-11 A.M. with the funeral immediately following at 11 A.M. all at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are suggested to Annunciation Catholic Cemetery c/o the funeral home. Gary William Schneider, 79, of Holts Summit formerly of the Jamestown area, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Fulton Manor Care Ctr. in Fulton, MO.
Gary was born July 26, 1944 in Denver, Co to David R. Schneider and Virginia (Turner) Schneider both of whom preceded him in death.
Gary grew up in Columbia, MO attending Hickman High School and 2.5 years at MU. Gary had 2 passions, raising livestock and electricity. His father was the AG teacher at Hickman and a part time electrician. Gary started out working for his dad where he learned his trade and developed a love for livestock.
Gary married his wife, Donna Sue Koch (Susie) July 31, 1965. Gary and Susie later moved to the Jamestown area where they raised Reg. Angus Cattle. He would go onto develop a breeding program that lasted 45 years called G&S Angus. The whole family participated in exhibiting their cattle at local and state fairs. Gary was a member of the American Angus Assoc. and the Missouri Angus Assoc. for 50 years. He was the Missouri Angus Assoc. President for the 1990 term.
Gary pursued his interest as an electrician by starting a new business in California, MO called California Electrical Contracting. He operated this business for 25 years. Gary and Susie also enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, going to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, San Diego, Minnesota, Colorado and more.
Due to health reasons, Gary sold all his beloved black cattle in 2022, sold their farm in 2023 and moved to Holts Summit.
Gary is survived by his wife, Susie of 58 years; his daughter, Cindy (Eric) Wilber, Eldon; son, Mathew Schneider (Terre) of Kennewick, WA; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Carol (Henry) Parrish, Cecelia (Mike) Craig and Patricia (Saeid) Behroozi.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother David T. Schneider, grandparents, aunts, uncles and great grandaughter Sadie Webster.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 10-11 A.M. with the funeral immediately following at 11A.M. all at the funeral home. There will be a graveside service following at 2:00 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, MO. Officiating will be Chaplain Jeremy Caudel. Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Childrens Hospital c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services of California, MO.

Gary Lee Borghardt, 67, of California, MO passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 in California, MO. He was born March, 5, 1957 to Roy Lee and Helen (Plaster) Borghardt at the Latham Sanitarium Hospital in California, MO.
Gary attended Clarksburg Grade School all eight years and graduated from California High School in 1975. In high school he was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He started working for MFA in California, MO while in high school and after graduation he worked in the feed mill and drove the semi-tractor trailer hauling grain for over 20 years. He enjoyed going to the farms and visiting with the farmers. He had many stories from his truck driving days. Gary then worked for Cargill Processing Plant driving a truck and then worked for Burgers Smokehouse for a short time. In January 2005 his last job was with the Missouri Sate Prison Correction Center in Tipton, MO. He retired from the prison in January 2021 due to ill health. He raised cattle and spent many hours on the family farm that his parents owned.
He was a faithful member of the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in California, MO and was baptized on Dec. 14, 1988. Gary always brought his mother to church when she was able and hardly ever missed a Sunday. He was very diligent in his job duties as an usher.
Gary is survived by his sister, Pamela (James) Mason of Jamestown, MO; niece, Lesley (Christopher) Schmidt, and 2 great nephews, Jackson and Colton Schmidt all of Belton, MO as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. with the service immediately following at 11:00 A.M. all at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Evandro Kopper. Burial will be at the California Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Radio Ministry, 207 N. Owen St, California, MO or the California Masonic Cemetery c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin- Cantriel Funeral Services of California, MO.
