Meet Smita, founder of Boston based , the newest home goods brand to be welcomed in to our Abroad Modern family!

Originally from the bustling streets of New Delhi, India, Smita’s childhood was immersed in the vibrant tapestry of Indian textiles. Growing up in India, she was surrounded by the kaleidoscope of colors, intricate patterns and tactile fabrics that define Indian textiles, all of which shaped her identity and instilled a deep appreciation for her homeland’s rich heritage.

Banyan & Birch pays homage to India’s textile legacy. Their homegoods collection draws inspiration from the majestic floral motifs, serene Mughal courtyards and ornate buti patterns that symbolize Indian craftsmanship.

We’re honored to share her work with you!

In a sea of possibilities at one of our fabric textile shops in New Delhi, this crisp poplin pin dot fabric - with a "wrong side" that is oh so right - begged to become dinner napkins! We dressed it up just a little with a contrast stitch border, and let the contrasting running stripe on the back do the rest of the talking. Get creative, folding them in loads of ways to highlight the unintended interest of the fabric's construction.

Why wait for the holidays? These mini mobile ornaments from the Brooklyn studio of Industrial Designer Pat Kim need not a tree to bring sculptural interest to your home. The kinetic brass and wooden ornaments are adapted from designs found in his larger scale work. Keeping different arrangements of them around his studio, they often act as inspiration for new design ideas.
