Against the Stream Boston is a Theravada Buddhist community offering group meditation and dharma talks on Thursday nights from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. at Karma Yoga Studio, 1120 Mass Ave, in Harvard Square, Cambridge. Our guiding teacher is Chris Crotty. We are affiliated with the Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society founded by Noah Levine, author of Dharma Punx and Against the Stream. The mis
sion of Against the Stream is to make the teachings of the Buddha available to all who are interested. We wish to create and sustain communities of healthy, accountable, wise, and compassionate people from every walk of life. We welcome people from all racial, economic, sexual, social, political, and religious backgrounds and preferences and believe that the path of awakening is attainable by all and should be available to all. The Dharma - the teachings of the Buddha - are offered on the basis of generosity. Likewise, we rely on your generosity practice to sustain expenses and teachers. A suggested donation of $10-15 per class is recommended; however, all are always welcome regardless of ability to donate. Chris Crotty is the founder of Contemplative Wellness and Education, and as an adjunct professor in alternative medicine his work focuses on the role of mindfulness meditation and Hatha yoga in emotional and physical health. Chris began practicing Buddhist meditation in 1998, exploring the Tibetan, Zen, and Theravada traditions. He holds a master’s degree in Ecopsychology, Buddhism, and Leadership and has completed the Integrated Study and Practice Program (ISPP) at Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. He has also completed Noah Levine's dharma teacher training program. Chris's dharma talks are available for streaming or download here: http://chriscrotty.podbean.com/
