In celebrating our 25th Anniversary in Harvard Square, it’s really a celebration OF Harvard Square.

The Square has a long history of counter culture. Famously independent.
A core that gravitates to the underdog, the artisan, the independent free thinkers.
It has been home to many iconic and individualistic people and places.

The pit is gone.

The Tasty, Casablanca, Wursthaus, Nuggets, Cafe Paradiso, Darwin’s, Cafe Fiorella, the Original House of Blues💙, Curious George, the Tannery, Upstairs on the Pudding, are all gone, but the spirit is still alive.

The alternatives still thrive.

We don’t have McDonald’s, we have Charlie’s Kitchen and Mr. Bartley’s
We don’t have Kay Jewelers, we have Motto.
We don’t have Pizza Hut, we have Source and Pinocchios.
We don’t have Applebee’s, we have Russell House Tavern.
We don’t have Tower Records, we have Armageddon.

Even Eye Q was once the home of start up Pier 1 Imports

And later, the Dutch Flower Garden

In retrospect, as young startups, we only got a lease
BECAUSE we were an independent, non-chain business.
Our landlord was a fierce advocate for maintaining the soul of Harvard Square.

Inspired by our predecessors and compelled to continue the tradition of keeping Harvard Square interesting and indie and locally owned we stand in defiance of chain restaurants, chain coffee shops, chain bookstores and yes, chain optical stores.

Eye Q is the only non-chain optical shop in Harvard Square.

In celebration of 25 years in Harvard Square we will be highlighting a different
indie eyewear brand each month in 2024 with a 50% off sale, starting with BEVEL and Face-a-Face
