I recently went to the doctor for my annual check-up, and quickly remembered the scale was *in the hallway* of the office. I did not want to be weighed, especially in the middle of a public space, so I politely declined by saying "I'd rather not today, if that's ok?" and the medical assistant did not bat an eye. We proceeded to the exam room, and the doctor did not ask me about my weight either. I will admit, that it was a little anxiety-provoking not knowing how they would react, but I was proud of myself for trying it anyway.
I do live in a body that has many privileges, so I know this may not be the experience everyone will have. However, I don't think many people know that declining a weight is even an option. If you think getting weighed could be triggering for you for any reason, try asking to not step on the scale, or you can opt for a blind weight if you are unsure of what it would feel like to not know your weight. You can always discuss your concerns about being weighed with your doctor *in private* during your visit.
Have you ever declined being weighed? What was the experience like for you?
May 6th is , an annual social media campaign to encourage the rejection of diet culture.
“This is a campaign that is close to our hearts, since we work with our clients to challenge the harms of diet culture each and every day.”
Swipe to find out more about the meaning behind this special day!
How are you celebrating? We’d love to hear how below!
National PB&J Day, got us thinking about how it’s such a great meal!
Click through to see why and learn why we don’t put food on a pedestal- viewing one food as “better” than another! All foods have a place and we share why PB&J’s have a special place in our hearts and on our plates!
When we think we are doing enough, we have to ask ourselves - what more can we do? Sharing a post and re-sharing others' posts was just not enough. We want to let folx out in the IG world know that we believe and support Mikey, Lindley, and all those harmed by , and we are ready to examine our own privileges and ways in which we may have caused harm.
If you have been living under a rock, I suggest reading the accounts by , and to get caught up. Then I suggest becoming a member of ASDAH and supporting the folks doing the work out there either through subscribing to their Patreons, making a donation, sharing their work, etc.
We are working as a team to create a commitment to our anti-oppression work, which we don't want to do as a knee-jerk reaction, but with a thoughtful approach. We will be sharing this on our website and socials when it is ready. Any delay in getting this message out and clear has been due to our busy schedules and prioritizing other areas of our work. But this is an ongoing conversation, and even when we share our commitment we will not stop there. So let's start here.
New Post Alert🚨
One of our Registered Dietitians, Maura, shares her thoughts about fueling for exercise in our new blog post! She also explains how your body utilizes fuel and why you never need to eat less even if you didn’t engage in intentional exercise that day!
Read it at the link in our bio!
If you are one of the 28.8 million Americans who have experienced an ED, just know you are not alone - even if it does feel like that sometimes. Over the past few years since the beginning of the pandemic, we've seen an increase in clients struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating. We are so honored to be there to support our clients, and we are so proud of the work they are doing in recovery. Our hope is for this week to be a reminder to folks to reach out to their loved ones, whether you are seeking support or wanting to be a support. The only way we can increase awareness and reduce stigma is to offer compassion for ourselves and others and share our stories.
Happy Halloween! 🎃 we love this holiday because it’s all about having fun, wearing costumes, and enjoying sweet treats. Your favorite dietitians here at Nourish for Life also love to enjoy candies this spooky season, so we thought we’d share what we are hoping to get in our trick or treat bags!
🍬🍫🍭
While holidays like Halloween may trigger anxieties and fears around food - especially challenging foods for many, like candy and sweets - we implore you to consider the delicious fun in the experience, not the calories or the sugar. Don’t let diet culture steal your joy! Instead, listen to your body and enjoy the candies you love, those that are special and may not always be available throughout the year.

Vulnerability post!
I haven’t always felt like I have a “seat at the table”, to use this years’ motto. My identity (in many ways) has always been hard to define.
I am bi-racial (white/Jewish and Chinese), and was teased when I was younger that I am only “half as good”.
I was a “tomboy” when I was younger, which lead me to question my femininity.
I have PTSD but many people to think that there is “nothing wrong with me” since my scars are invisible to the rest of the world.
I also lived with disordered eating most of my life, but no one ever acknowledged it since I never was “skinny enough”.
The feeling that I do not fully align with any one identity has been a challenge I’ve lived with my entire life. It has affected my self esteem, made me question my authenticity, and shaped my relationship with food and body. But the many years of work I’ve done in therapy and opening up to my loved ones has helped. I can relate to so many people because of my lived experiences, and I feel so blessed that I can use them to connect more deeply with my clients.
I am starting to feel like I have a seat at the table, and although it will take continued work on my part to get comfortable in that seat, I have confidence that it can happen. 💜 Jenn
It’s Week! We’re collaborating with to invite ‘Every Body to Have a Seat at the Table’ by encouraging conversations that raise awareness, challenge systemic biases and highlight stories from all backgrounds and experiences.
We believe that everyone's experience matters. You cannot tell what someone is living through just by their appearance. Eating disorders can affect anyone regardless of size, gender, race, sexuality, age, ability or socioeconomic status. We are committed to providing inclusive, gender-affirming, and culturally sensitive care to our clients, who come from all backgrounds. There have been many sessions where we find ourselves helping clients connect the dots between HAES, social justice, fatphobia, gender inequities, and racism. At times we may even call out our own privileges and recognize that our lived experiences may not be the same, but we can still listen and learn, and through being present with our clients we can hopefully create space for healing.
To highlight voices from across many communities, we will be sharing accounts to follow and resources in our story, so follow along! You can learn more and get involved at nedawareness.org .
It’s hard to believe it’s almost been a year of remote work and quarantining! 😷 We miss seeing all of our clients in person, but we are so grateful for the technology that makes it possible to connect, even through a screen 💻
So if you’re looking for someone to help you ditch the diets for good, guide you on your journey to recovery, relive your digestive concerns, or optimize through proper sports nutrition, let us know! We are taking new virtual clients at Nourish for Life, and are in-network with some insurance networks. Reach us through the link in the bio, or call us at 617-744-9233 to learn more or book an appointment.
Like many of our clients, you might be struggling with the desire to use eating behaviors as a way to feel productive, grounded, and safe during a very uncertain time. And to be honest, we don’t blame you for entertaining these thoughts!
Given how stressful, isolating, and uneventful life has become during the pandemic, it makes sense if you might have noticed a tendency to fall back into behaviors and old habits that once provided a sense of accomplishment, purpose, and promise.
Though we understand how this has happened for you, we’re also here to remind you that there are plenty of other (less harmful) ways to fulfill your needs, even amidst a global pandemic.
The ones listed above are just a few (of many) alternative options. check out of our full blog post at nourishforlife.com to learn about a few more!

Our Story
Hello! I am a dietitian nutritionist based out of Cambridge, MA. I am passionate about helping my clients cultivate a healthy relationship with food, and feel well with each meal. My specialties include eating disorders and disordered eating, Intuitive Eating, nutrition for digestive health, food allergies and intolerances, women’s health, and perinatal nutrition.
I practice through a Health at Every Size® lens, and take a holistic approach – exploring how food intersects with other aspects of your life – while providing guidance based on the latest scientific evidence.
I help my clients reach their individualized nutrition goals, such as breaking free from the diet mentality, recovering from an eating disorder, improving gastrointestinal symptoms, or having a healthy pregnancy. For clients with IBS, I can guide you through a low-FODMAP eating plan – the first evidence-based nutrition therapy for irritable bowel syndrome - while minimizing the need for excessive restriction. I also have training in therapeutic modalities that I interweave with my nutrition counseling, such as Internal Family Systems and Clinical Hypnosis.
My interest in nutrition began with my love for cooking and evolved from my desire to improve my own health. I received my Master’s from Boston University and earned a certificate of training in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In the past I have worked in the hospital inpatient and outpatient setting, corporate wellness, and community nutrition. I have taught undergraduate nutrition at UMass Lowell, and provided counseling to university students at The Boston Conservatory, and currently at Boston College. I served on the board of the Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for 5 years, and have been awarded Emerging Dietetic Leader by MAND in 2018, as well as Preceptor of the Year Award by Simmons College in 2019.
