Grendel’s Den is a European style eatery in Cambridge, MA. Nestled in Harvard Square, come see wha
Named after Grendel, the antagonist in the Old English poem of Beowulf, Grendel’s Den has been serving Harvard Square since 1971. We figured, Grendel may have been an hideous ogre, but he knew a good mead hall when he saw one. That idea of lively merriment is still alive and well at Grendel’s Den. A dyed-in-the-wool Harvard staple, Grendel’s has always been known as a comfortable, friendly environ

As much as I appreciate this real estate company sharing a post about Grendel's, the timing is, um... interesting.
Where’s the beef? It’s at Grendel’s! We are loving these beautiful painted cows from local artists brought to Winthrop park by in support of Come and enjoy them, and then have some beefy lunch! 🐄
It’s Cancer season, a time that connects us to our intense emotional sides. So for this horoscope cocktail we’ve got a drink thats half sour, half sweet, just like our emotions sometimes. This is a bourbon sour, but with a float of creme de violette and rosso italia. Enjoy!!! ♋
You don't have to open a vein to get lunch at Grendel's...
But if you do, you can get it for free.

Yesterday the Cambridge community lost one of its greatest champions. Mary-Catherine Deibel, President of the Business Association, Director of Development at the and former co-owner of the legendary UpStairs on the Square, passed away last evening after a struggle with liver disease. From our owner, Kari Kuelzer…
Today I am stunned and saddened to hear of the loss of an incredible woman who is the very definition of a pillar of the community. I was lucky enough to spend more than 10 years as Mary-Catherine's "neighbor" when Upstairs on the Square shared the old Pi Eta Club with Grendel's Den. Initially, it was hard to fathom a restaurant besides Grendel's in that space, or the Pudding anywhere but Holyoke St. Before long though, we settled into a perfect Upstairs/Downstairs symbiosis and saw some of the best and busiest days on Winthrop Street. It was with her partnership, mentorship, and stewardship that we made our block a dining and nightlife hub. I couldn't have done it without her. I am deeply saddened to lose her so suddenly. I was so lucky to have known this genuine, kind, majestic woman. Here's a photo from when she graced the Den in attendance of our 40th anniversary, bringing all her style and glow from on high.
The keg mountain left over from Harvard commencement and weekend! That’s a wrap!!! Can we take a nap now????
Today is a Pimm’s strawberry lemonade kind of day.
Ta**us Season - reliable and down-to-earth, those born in Ta**us are going to appreciate a top-notch rendition of a classic, and since the only thing more stubborn than these bulls is a Mule. We make this one with Gray Goose vodka, ginger beer, lime juice.
The patio is open, now all we need is some good weather!!!
Prices have changed a bit since the 70s… but you’ll still find great food at reasonable prices at the ‘Den!
“Excuse me miss, can we see your ID please?”
