April is Stress Awareness Month!!

Caring for a loved one strains even the most resilient people. If you're a caregiver, take steps to preserve your own health and well-being.

Our beautiful Tree of Hope at the Cancer Center was drawn, free-handed, by Mr Gerald Myers several years ago. Gerald used a sharpie to create this beautiful masterpiece of hope, for our patients to leave their hand prints to celebrate the end of cancer treatment. While Gerald was in the process of drawing, he would take breaks and sit and talk with the patients and encourage them, as he spoke of his own cancer journey. Encouraging…it’s what Gerald did best; with his art, his time and his amazing smile!! He was a giver!! Gerald’s beautiful wife, Terry, and two of their children recently visited the Cancer Center and got to see the fruits of Gerald’s labor. Gerald’s encouragement and memory will live on forever through his gift of The Tree of Hope!!❤️

Want to Say Thank You to Your Nurse?

Share your story!🌼
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say "thank you" to nurses in a very public way. Please say thank you by sharing your story of how a nurse made a difference you will never forget!

Now you can nominate in TWO ways:
1🌼) https://www.trhosp.org/getpage.php...
2🌼) Drop your nomination in one of the colorful DAISY boxes throughout TRH!

We couldn't do it without our PHENOMENAL nursing staff! We want them to know just how much they mean to us and to our patients! This is a great way to let them know you care! ❤🌼

🎉🎉🎉 Taylor Regional Hospital earns National Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons 🎉🎉🎉

TAYLOR REGIONAL HOSPITAL CANCER PROGRAM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ACCREDITED BY THE COMMISSION ON CANCER OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS
Contact: Rachael Thompson, TRH Marketing and PR Director

Taylor Regional Hospital Earns National Accreditation
from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

Campbellsville, KY—The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation to the cancer program at Taylor Regional Hospital. To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

Because it is a CoC-accredited cancer center, Taylor Regional Hospital Cancer Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary partnership results in improved patient care.

“The Commission on Cancer is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer. Programs like ours here at Taylor Regional Hospital that achieve and maintain accreditation adhere to high standards and promote cancer prevention, research, and education.” Dr. Ben Angel, TRH Cancer Committee Chairman

"We are so blessed and honored to continue to serve the cancer patients in this area of the state. Our Reaccreditation by the Commission on Cancer is a testament of the hard work and dedication of our team and commitment to any patients who might be faced with a challenging diagnosis." Melody Slinker, RN, OCN, TRH Cancer Center Director

The CoC Accreditation Program provides the framework for Taylor Regional Hospital Cancer Center to improve its quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs that focus on the full spectrum of cancer care including prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow-up for recurrent disease, and end-of-life care. When patients receive care at a CoC facility, they also have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient centered services including psycho-social support, a patient navigation process, and a survivorship care plan that documents the care each patient receives and seeks to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.
Like all CoC-accredited facilities, Taylor Regional Hospital maintains a cancer registry and contributes data to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), a joint program of the CoC and American Cancer Society. This nationwide oncology outcomes database is the largest clinical disease registry in the world. Data on all types of cancer are tracked and analyzed through the NCDB and used to explore trends in cancer care. CoC-accredited cancer centers, in turn, have access to information derived from this type of data analysis, which is used to create national, regional, and state benchmark reports. These reports help CoC facilities with their quality improvement efforts.

The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 1.7 million cases of cancer will be diagnosed in 2018. There are currently more than 1,500 CoC-accredited cancer programs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, CoC-accredited facilities diagnose and/or treat more than 70 percent of all newly diagnosed patients with cancer. When cancer patients choose to seek care locally at a CoC-accredited cancer center, they are gaining access to comprehensive, state-of-the-art cancer care close to home. The CoC provides the public with information on the resources, services, and cancer treatment experience for each CoC-accredited cancer program through the CoC Hospital Locator at https://www.facs.org/search/cancer-programs.

Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving patient outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive, quality care. Its membership includes Fellows of the American College of Surgeons. For more information, visit: www.facs.org/cancer
