Compassion Church

In the midst of this overhaul Noah and Michelle had a unique opportunity. In short, on January 30th 2019 Noah decided to donate half of his liver to an anonymous child in need. Through risking his life for the sake of another he was able to inspire many through his selfless act. The real hero according to Pastor Noah was his wife Michelle who was by his side for three months of recovery. It was a story picked up by national news outlets because of the “outlandish compassion” demonstrated by someone for a stranger. As of January 19th, 2020 Compassion Church was birthed. Through the talents and dedication of a unified and diverse Elder and Staff team they achieved what few would dare to try. They resurrected a declining church and spoke vision and life into it. The result? A newly formed community focused on bringing the power and message of Jesus to their surrounding region and beyond. Our momentum is formed not around a charismatic leader, brand, or any other man made entitity. Our momentum is centered around Jesus and what the Spirit is up to. We are not seeking to become a “mega-anything.” We are seeking to be a faithful community of Jesus followers who please the One we follow; bringing as many as we can with us on the journey.

Our approach is unique. We take very seriously what it means to follow Jesus. In an age of American Christianity where it seems that comfort, power, and influence have taken the prioritized position--we recognize that we serve a King who chose a different path and empowered people in the margins. He sought validation not from people but from his Heavenly Father. He chose to serve not with prestige and influence but rather humble nonviolence and meekness. With this understanding we seek to be a community that embodies the life of Jesus. We take this literally to the point where within our own campus we have invited two key non-profits to join us and bring their head quarters within Compassion so that together we can be obedient to the Father’s heart in reaching people in need. Both of these represent Jesus meeting people in true need.

The first is Hope United. Their mission is to bring relief and education to any and all struggling with drug addiction. They have weekly meetings and counseling sessions within Compassions building. The second is Light After Loss. This organization specializes in working with people who are struggling with depression and suicidal tendencies. They work with anyone and everyone. Whether you are rich, poor, black, white, brown, illegal, legal, democrat, republican, independent, atheist, or Jesus Follower (or any other demographic pushed to the side)-- both of these organizations, as well as Compassion, are here to walk beside you to bring hope, truth, and freedom that is found through the love and hope of Christ.

Compassion has large goals for the future. In the present moment the focus is to launch the church with a firm dedication to both “the least of these” as well as any and all present within Compassion community. A Church is meant to be a diverse gathering of individuals who are strengthened by the Spirit together and are able to link arms and serve in multi-faceted ways.

When Compassion is strong enough and ready; the intent is to begin “Dream Centers” in various areas of need. The first Dream Center is scheduled to launch in Spring 2020 on the North East end of Canton city. The goal? Provide practical and effective relief efforts to our brothers and sisters in Christ who are in need of job training, food, budgeting classes, drivers ed training, and many other life skills. Through these efforts as well as intentional efforts in evangelism we believe we will see the Gospel spread in our community. Along with Dream Centers is an intentional effort in church planting. We understand that it is going to take a while for Compassion to grow, become healthy, and thrive. With our passion for growth through unbelievers and disconnected Christians we understand it will take longer than the typical approach (the typical approach being a new church being planted that attempts to pull other Christians from other churches. This isn’t the kind of growth Jesus wanted). Our vision for church planting is not through “brick and mortar” but rather in homes, coffee shops, store fronts, and other places the Holy Spirit leads us to. Organic and simple are the key words which define our approach. This is the approach found within the book of Acts--a book we treasure here at Compassion for its simplicity, power, and strategy.

We trust that the Lord will provide the leaders and people who feel called whom we can train, empower, and invest in to carry the Compassion DNA forward into unreached areas in our community and beyond.

If you dont have a church to call home or are new to Christianity, we want to invite you into what God is doing. We believe God is up to something new and fresh in Compassion. As our Lead Pastor often says, “I have seen the worst in humanity in the church and by ‘Christians.’ I have also seen the best in humanity in the church and by Jesus Followers.” We get it. Our passion is to hear your story and connect you to what God is calling you to do with your life. Whether it is for Compassion or somewhere else--we do not care. We only care that you thrive in who God has called you to be.
