Emergency service calls when it’s 7 degrees. 🥶🥶🥶 90 percent furnaces are great until its 7 degrees and the condensate pipes freezes and trips the emergency safeties that prevents attic flooding. Pool noodle to the rescue!!!! Little unconventional for sure but it definitely works in a pinch at least until I can get to a supply house in the morning. An ole pool noodle saved the night. 😉😂 Thawed the condensate pipe and replaced the busted portion of piping, Installed pool noodle to insulate, reset safeties pumped emergency drain pan and condensate pipe and we are back in business. HEAT! 🔥🔥🔥One happy and warm customer tonight. Now it time to go and thaw my own fingers and toes and maybe get a hot cup of coffee or two or three. ☕️☕️☕️

A double tapped circuit breaker is when there are two wires that are connected to a single circuit breaker that is only engineered to accept one electrical wire. This is a condition that can become serious because two wires in a single breaker may not be properly tightened to the circuit breaker and wires that don’t properly tighten have the potential to cause overheating and arcing. A flame sensor is a device that is used in a furnace to confirm the gas valve is only open when there is a flame present. This aids in the prevention of harmful and dangerous gas buildup. Flame sensors can become dirty with carbon buildup which can cause the sensor to fail and also for the furnace to fail to ignite which will prevent proper heating of the furnace. Superheat and Subcooling mean quite a bit to heating and air conditioning contractors. These particular readings tell us a lot about how well an air conditioning system is performing. This particular subcooling number is very high and there is no superheat indicating that the refrigerant is not picking up enough heat to turn to v***r which in turn can cause liquid refrigerant to enter the compressor which can cause slugging and cause major damage to the compressor. These pictures were taken on an 82F degree day and the head pressure is extremely excessive for an 82F degree day. Pressures like these can be caused by dirty or plugged condensing units that are restricted and can’t breath, Underfeeding TXV’s, or by an overcharged system. This condenser coil was cleaned and flushed and the head pressure remained excessive. This system happened to be overcharged by a previous HVAC contractor/technician. Once the refrigerant charge was adjusted the pressures normalized and the system performed the way the manufacture designed.

Ants in contactors this time of year is definitely not uncommon. It has been said that ants are attracted to contactors because of the magnetic field surrounding the electrical wires or that they are possibly attracted to the heat created by resistance in the wires. Either way ants getting into a contactor are a problem. It is important to keep the switching side(s) of a contactor covered and sealed to reduce the chance of ants entering the contacts. It is also important to keep vegetation cut back away from your condensing unit and to keep dirt and mulch from building up around the outdoor unit. Not all contractors are the same. As a homeowner, it is important that you make sure you are hiring a heating and air conditioning contractor that has the knowledge and skills to keep your system operating properly without compromising your HVAC systems integrity. This particular compressor calls for a 35 microfarad capacitor and the condenser fan motor call for a 5 microfarad capacitor. The customer had a dual capacitor fail 2 months prior to this and the contractor who made the repairs decided to replace the 35/5 dual capacitor with a 40/5 microfarad capacitor which is incorrect. This can cause damage to your HVAC systems compressor by allowing greater amperage to the compressor start windings.

This is why we do HVAC maintenance. This compressor plug is out of sight and out of mind and very hard to get to. It has had a loose connection for a while and damaged the plug which in turn can ultimately damage the compressor. 💵💵💵💵💵This particular compressor has been replaced previously and the new compressor requires a 60/5 microfarad capacitor. The contractor (licensed or unlicensed, who knows) previously left the old 50/5 capacitor in place and didn’t match to the new compressor. This is an issue because this is how motor windings get damaged which in turn cause failures and cost once again; 💵💵💵💵💵 When Was the last time your HVAC system was inspected? If I were a betting person, I would bet that the work pictured wasn’t a permitted job and wasn’t done by a licensed HVAC contractor. I could be wrong but I don’t know of a licensed contractor that would let something like this slide by. What do you think?
