Optimist International Optimist International is an association of more than 2,900 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids."
Adult volunteers join Optimist Clubs to conduct positive service projects in their communities aimed at providing a helping hand to youth. With their upbeat attitude, Optimist Club members help empower young people to be the best that they can be. Canton Optimist Club supported International Literacy Day on Sunday, September 8, and everyday before and after, with our free Lending Library outside of the Canton YMCA. Come grab a book or drop off your favorite book to share.
The Canton Optimist Club held a social event at The Holler on Wednesday night to introduce potential members to our organization. Afterward we took first place in The Holler’s trivia game.

The Canton Optimist Club attended the Optimist Gateway District Conference in Peachtree Corners. Tom Brumbeloe received a certificate of recognition as a nominee for the Optimist of the Year award. Jason Blakey was installed as the new Zone 2 Lt. Governor. Our club was recognized as the outstanding club in our size category for Achievements and Awards.
The Canton Optimist Club recognized five outstanding members of our law enforcement community as a part of our Respect for Law Enforcement initiative. Rachel Hines, Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney and Marsha Terry, Assistant Solicitor-General, were recognized for their dedication to protecting victims of crime. Inv. Andy Farmer, Cherokee County School Police, Inv. Brian Venable and Corporal Shauna Murphey from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, were recognized for their dedication to serving children and the community. Our county is well served by the commitment of these exceptional individuals.
The Canton Optimist Club was happy to support our Cherokee County E 9-1-1, Georgia responders and make a donation to their E911 Foundation. These dedicated professionals are heroes in our community as they are the first voice people in need hear and rely upon for help. Our Club thanks them for their dedication.
Canton Optimist Richard Rogers hosted an invite your friends and family tour of the Southern Gas Company. We are all smarter, thanks to Richard, in understanding liquid natural gas and the magic of science that brings natural gas to our homes.
Today, the Canton Optimist Club celebrates 45 years of service to youth in our community! We chartered June 21, 1979.

We were honored to help the Cherokee Homeless Veterans Program.

I am sad to let you know Governor Kathy Forster passed away yesterday afternoon.
Kathy was a very active Optimist and touched the lives of many youth, community members and other Optimist members. She was always willing to help in any way she could.
We were truly blessed to have Kathy as a member of our District and she will be greatly missed.
She would want you to remember to "Fly Like an An Eagle"
