🙋♀️ Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Meals: 🍽
💙 CCSD School Nutrition 💙 participates in USDA's Summer Food Service Program. Allow us to provide some helpful answers to frequently asked questions.
👉 Why is curbside pickup not available in Cherokee County this summer❓
Due to the expiration of a USDA pandemic waiver which allowed non-congregate meal service (meals taken & eaten offsite), curbside pickup is not available in Cherokee County*.
*Curbside pickup may be allowed in other areas in Georgia that are designated "rural" by the USDA. Cherokee County's summer feeding sites do not fall within those designated eligible areas.
👉 Why do the meals have to be eaten onsite❓
Due to the expiration of a USDA waiver which allowed non-congregate meal service, USDA regulations require meals be consumed onsite.
👉 Why must children be present to receive a meal❓
Due to an expired USDA pandemic waiver that previously allowed meals to be picked up without children present, children must again be present to receive a summer meal.
👉 Are these changes related to funding❓
No. The changes are due to expired USDA waivers that were implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to create meal service flexibilities during the health crisis.
👉 Did CCSD School Nutrition make these changes❓
No. USDA regulations determine meal service methods for Summer Feeding, since it is a federal program funded by the USDA.
👉 What is CCSD doing to provide meals out in the community❓
In an effort to reach as many children in our community as possible, we are proudly re-deploying not one, but TWO 'Cruising Cafe's'! 🚌🚌 These expertly refurbished school buses (courtesy of our amazing CCSD Transportation Team) are all-in-one meal service & dining establishments on wheels! Complete with air conditioning, seating, and even a retractable canopy for outdoor dining! Please see info on flyer for Cruising Café locations near you.
