Swimming in lakes, rivers, oceans, and other open water poses hazards you won’t find in a swimming pool. These tips can help kids stay safe:
⚠️ Use designated swimming and recreational areas whenever possible. There are usually signs posted regarding hazards and lifeguard schedules.
🌊 Be aware of “hidden hazards” like uneven surfaces, rip currents, and undertows, which can make swimming or playing in open water dangerous even for experienced swimmers. And talk to your kids about them.
🦶 When entering unfamiliar water, it’s always best to enter feet first and swim in slowly. Encourage your kids to ease into the water before heading out too deep and to be extra aware of their surroundings.
👫 When kids are in open water, make sure they agree to swim with a partner every time. It’s a good rule for when they’re just hanging out or playing in the surf as well.
🦺 Beach time is the perfect time to fit your kids with a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, which is a quick, easy way to help your kids stay safe and to help you worry less so the whole family can have fun.
We will be checking seats at the Alliance City Health Department Pop Up grill event on July 12th. Looking forward to seeing you there!
This holiday weekend is the perfect time to have a bonfire! Just make sure to be prepared and safe during the bonfire to prevent any injuries.
Happy 4th of July, we hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday!

During extremely hot and humid weather, your body's ability to cool itself is challenged. When the body heats too rapidly to cool itself properly, or when too much fluid or salt is lost through dehydration or sweating, the body temperature will rise. As a result, you or someone you care about may experience a heat-related illness. Learn the symptoms of excessive heat exposure and the appropriate responses.
Always encourage your kids to wear a bike helmet no matter their age. Wearing a helmet could be the difference between a major injury and a minor one.

With the temps getting close to 80 degrees today. Never leave children, disabled or elderly adults or pets in parked vehicles. Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to a dangerous level for children, pets, and even adults. Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate. The effects can be more severe on children because their bodies have not developed the ability to efficiently regulate its internal temperature.
Thank you so much to the Stark County Sheriff's Office and Safe Stark County Safe Communities for being a big part of Safe Kids Day on Saturday!
Before going out for a bike ride, knowing the correct hand signals can be very important if riding on a busy road for not only your safety but for the drivers of the cars on the road.
