Although electric cars are sleek and high-tech, accident rates indicate that the vehicles aren’t exactly safer. With accidents often come injuries. Health insurance will pick up most of the tab, per the policy’s terms. However, if there is an at fault third party, then contractually, the health insurer may have the right to pursue that party to cover medical treatment costs, a.k.a. subrogation. To learn more about subrogation and how The Phia Group helps, please contact Scott Byerley at [email protected].

The National Safety Council estimates that “nonfatal disabling car crash injury [is] estimated to cost $162,000 and each evident injury $42,000.” To be clear, medical bills from car accidents can cost hundreds of thousands. However, when a negligent third party is at fault, the subrogation provision in the member’s health plan requires that the plan be reimbursed from the third party. Accordingly, the responsible person is held accountable for injuries and subsequent costs. The Phia Group has been pursuing subrogation for health plans for over 20 years. Please contact Scott Byerley at [email protected] to protect your health plan’s best interests.

As the presidential election looms closer, there will be much talk about healthcare’s rising costs. It’s a reality that nearly all of us face. Subsequently, cost containment tools are needed. One such tool for employers with self-funded plans is strong subrogation language in their health plans to properly place responsibility on the at-fault third party when a vehicle accident occurs. The Phia Group has designed plan language protecting our clients and maximizing their rights when an accident results from another party’s actions. For more information, please contact Scott Byerley at [email protected].
