Crusader family, Fr. Kaylor’s family has shared an update. “Fr. Bob's condition has not changed. He is taking some liquids, but no food. However, his oxygen levels have slightly improved. Hospice assures us that Fr. Bob is in no pain. We've been told that it appears he is transitioning to the spiritual world and the rest is in God's hands. We will continue to keep you apprised of any changes. Thank you for your ongoing prayers.”

Please join us in sending prayers and blessings to Fr. Kaylor, his family, and those who love him. Father held his hands over us and gave this blessing over our community countless times, it’s our turn now to say a blessing over him.

Fr. Kaylor assisted Fr. Benson for several years with Masses.

Crusader family, please join us in prayer for Father Robert Kaylor, a dedicated Crusader (Class of 1962), former teacher, principal, and president. His family released the following statement yesterday evening.

“It is with a heavy heart that we report Fr. Bob has declined significantly. Medical staff believe he suffered a stroke over the weekend. His oxygen is low, he is unable to take pills or eat. He is extremely weak and unable to talk – just nods. It is hard to say this, but based on his condition he does not have the capacity to rebound. We apologize for notifying you of his declining health in this way, but Bob’s community and friends are vast and geographically dispersed, so we decided to utilize Caringbridge. Please keep him in your prayers. We plan to keep everyone updated as information becomes available.”

This morning, our students and staff said the Lord’s Prayer for Father, his family, and all who love him, a prayer that he led our Crusader family in saying countless times anytime someone in our community needed to be lifted in prayer.

Unfortunately, several of you have received text messages that are fraudulent. The message uses Deacon Randy's name, saying this is an urgent matter and asks you to send money or gift cards or to call right away. Deacon Randy, Fr. Kevin Peters, and Fr. Fritz Schlueter would NEVER ask anyone for monetary assistance in this way. If you get a message like this, do not respond. Delete it. This type of text or email is a scam.

History of St Benedict’s Church and the new St. Benedict/St. Mary’s merger

St. Benedict’s History
In the Summer of 1923, the Most Reverend Joseph Schrembs established the parish of St. Benedict, placing it under the care of the Benedictine Fathers of the Archabbey of St. Vincent in Latrobe, PA. The Rev. James Spalding O.S.B was appointed as the first resident Pastor on August 4, 1923. In September of 1923, a temporary church was constructed. On Sunday, November 11, 1923, the first Mass was offered in the building, which was given the name of St. Benedict. The present church edifice was constructed and dedicated in 1925.

St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish History
On May 28, 2010, Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J., Bishop of Youngstown announced the merging of the Parishes of St. Mary and St. Benedict. These two Parishes officially merged on March 25, 2011 with a new name of St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish. The new St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish retained the worship sites of St. Mary’s Church and St. Benedict’s Church. The former rectory of St. Mary’s Church became the parish administrative offices while the rectory of former St. Benedict Church remained the Priest’s residence. The Rev. Benson Claret Okpara, Ph.D. was appointed as the Administrator of the new Parish. Under his leadership, there has been a steady increase in the parish enrollment.
