August "Auggie" Waltrip of Santa Cruz County Works notes there are 2 black cans - one at Portola and 38th in front of Du***ss Donuts, and one is on 41st across from Betty Burgers in the planter box area. If they aren't "ours" the county is going to remove them - if "we claim them" and want to provide service, we can. Auggie is at 831-454-3986.
Any takers? Anyone to assist or just let the county take'em?

Harry Conti recounts: “Rick Karleen (aka Killer)(RIP 10/2/1949 - 9/16/2009) was one of the founding PPNF members! Rick was the owner of KLR Construction Company: a concrete contractor in Santa Cruz for more than 40 years.” He was a vital component in the restoration of the Capitola Wharf, which he owned for many years. Rick was also very civic-minded and served on the Capitola City Planning Commission for 8 years.
Conti continues “I volunteered a lot of hours rebuilding that Wharf. While I was helping Rick with the Wharf, Rick told me he got a contract with the County of Santa Cruz to turn every sidewalk corner into wheelchair ramps (also great for skateboards). So when we were installing the new sidewalks Rick came up with the idea of making a steel stamp to leave our logos (KLR & PPNF) along with our secret message: PackYourTrash!”
Note: Rick also volunteered many hours on Kauai after the wrath of Hurricane Iniki in 1992 to help in the rebuilding of homes and the planning of benefit concerts to financially assist the local families.
