They are very full and very ready to be sorted and sold! We could still use volunteers to help us, and vendor signups are going strong. Go to www.uwcarlisle.org for all the details.
Introducing our new Executive Director, Cate Mellen!
The Board of Directors of UWCCC is pleased to announce that Cate will be stepping up to lead, effective May 20. Cate has served as Resource Development Director at UWCCC for the last year and a half, and replaces longtime executive director Lucy Suter Zander, who stepped down May 3 to spend more time with her family and focus on the family business.
“We want Cate and the community to know that she has our full confidence and support,” said incoming United Way Board President Melissa Kelso. “Cate brings extensive experience in fundraising and campaign planning, as well as deep ties to the Carlisle area. We are excited that she has chosen to continue her commitment to non-profit work and positively impacting the community through a leadership role with United Way.”
Cate is a native of Carlisle who holds a B.A. from Dickinson College, an M.A. from Syracuse University, and an M.A. from Cornell University. She is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and a graduate of Leadership Cumberland. Prior to joining United Way as Resource Development Director in 2023, she served 11 years as the Development Director at the Carlisle Family YMCA, where she helped to spearhead the recent $10.7 million building expansion. She has also served as the Community Relations Coordinator for Bosler Memorial Library.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity and am honored to accept this position,” Mellen said. “Lucy (Zander) did an incredible job in advancing the reach and impact of the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County during more than a decade of leadership. I’m excited to expand on the thriving framework she has left to continue to build a stronger and healthier community.”
Congratulations to Lucy!
Let's all give a standing ovation to Lucy Zander for her incredible achievement! Your dedication, talent, and hard work have propelled you to this well-deserved recognition.
Your success is not just a milestone but a testament to your perseverance and determination.
Congratulations, Lucy Zander! Here's to many more shining moments ahead! Come out on May 29th to help us celebrate, registration closes on May 10th!
Wow! It's hard to believe it's been more than a week since we held the Women United Annual Luncheon on April 30 at the Stern Center at Dickinson College. Thank you so much to Kelly Neiderer and Jean Foschi, Cumberland County commissioners, who made a special presentation to about 100 attendees. Thank you also to sponsor Melissa Kelso of Kelso Law. The event was also an emotional send-off for Lucy Zander, who was honored with an Outstanding Service Award by Dottie Warner -- and received a standing ovation. Lucy stepped down from her post last Friday after more than a decade of dedicated service to the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County.
We are nearing the time for U-Turn, Carlisle's Largest Yard Sale! It will be held June 8 at Carlisle Fairgrounds, Building T. If you want to volunteer to help us sort through all of the donations, become a vendor, or simply learn more, go to https://uwcarlisle.org/u-turn-community-yard-sale
