✨5 budgeting tips to save money for your first home✨

Saving money to purchase a home can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be when you approach it with specific goals and an action plan.

It’s always helpful to talk to a mortgage lender sooner rather than later too so that you have a really good idea of how much you’ll need to save up specifically for the price range of home you have in mind.

Questions to ask when doing the final walk through of your new home ➡️

Did you know that right before closing day when you get the keys that you can typically walk through the home one final time? This is a great time to make sure necessary repairs have been made and that everything is still as it was when you wrote an offer on the home, if not better.

Sometimes clients do it the day before closing or the same day right before coming to the title company to close on the home.

Personal story: I’m so glad I did the final walk through for my first house because the seller moved everything out but left a ton of trash and dog hair and it needed a major deep cleaning. My agent and I notified the listing agent and requested they send a cleaner over immediately prior to me moving in. I’m so glad we caught that and it was addressed! Just reiterating why a final walk through is so important!

What is a “Mortgage”?

I realize for a lot of people that the financing aspect of obtaining a home can be intimidating and stressful. It’s my goal to help it be less stressful and empower you through the home buying process.

Exciting news!

Back in the beginning of 2020, my coworker Rosie Bagguley and I created something called Wine Down Wednesday where we would hop on Microsoft Teams with our peers and debrief relevant podcasts. They were both professionally and personally applicable and we discussed major takeaways and how we could implement them in our individual lives and with our company. This was a great way for us to connect with our coworkers during quarantine and the stresses of the pandemic. We had great participation from throughout the Midwest region with Altria. I found it to be so rewarding and knew that when I left Altria I would miss hosting these events.

I have decided that I'm going to start Wine Down Wednesday in the Indianapolis area, but with a twist. I have asked my friend Darcy PoulosDarcy Poulos to help me with hosting these events in person and instead of debriefing podcasts, we are going to spotlight local business men and women. We are going to host this event at my office downtown Fishers on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. We will drink wine (or beverage of choice) as we network and chat.

We are going to highlight some small businesses and interesting, intriguing people and organizations in Hamilton County and beyond. Our guests will share with us what their business is all about, how they got their start, challenges they’ve faced, and anything else they want to share.

I'm a mortgage loan officer and Darcy is a real estate broker, but we are purposefully not focusing on real estate topics. We want this to be different, unique, engaging, and a way to build relationships with people in our community and to promote these people and their businesses/projects/organizations.

If you're local, we'd love for you to join us in person! We will also have the events on Zoom so that people can join virtually and we will post the discussions to YouTube afterwards.
