Solar in Shelbyville, Indiana!

Do solar panels work in cold weather?

Even in below-freezing weather, solar panels turn sunlight into electricity. That’s because solar panels absorb energy from our sun’s abundant light, not the sun’s heat. In fact, cold climates are actually optimal for solar panel efficiency. So long as sunlight is hitting a solar panel, it will generate electricity. Any diminished output during the winter months will primarily be due to heavy snow and shorter daylight hours.

Biden extends Trump-era solar tariffs, with several modifications 02/10/2022

The Biden administration said Friday that it will extend Section 201 tariffs on imported solar cells and panels for another four years, but with several changes to existing provisions. The tariff rate quota for solar cells will rise from 2.5 gigawatts to 5 gigawatts, and the administration will also uphold the decision to exclude bifacial panels from tariffs

The Solar Energy Industries Association said that while it was “disappointed” with the decision, it “supports” the administration’s efforts to find a middle ground. “Administration officials arrived at a balanced solution in upholding the exclusion for bifacial panels and increasing the tariff rate quota for cells,” Abigail Ross Hopper, SEIA's president and CEO, said in a statement.

Making Sense of Demand Charges: What Are They and How Do They Work? - Renewable Energy World 12/10/2021

If you don't understand you're electric bill, you're not alone. Surveys indicate that nearly 60 percent of energy consumers in America don’t really understand their electric bills.

Many people have a misconception that an electric bill is determined only by how much electricity is used. To a degree that is the case, but it’s important to know that DEMAND CHARGES can comprise between 30-70% of an electric bill.

At Telamon Energy, we help you understand your energy use and can help find cost-effective solutions for you. Here's a great article that sums up what demand charges are and how they work!

Making Sense of Demand Charges: What Are They and How Do They Work? - Renewable Energy World Two commercial buildings, a factory and an aerospace research facility, both consumed 40,000 kWh of energy in January 2017. However, their energy consumption patterns were very different. The factory maintained a uniform energy consumption of 1,333 kWh per day, and for no given period did their powe...
