Acne affects many of us at some point in our lives, but understanding its basics is key to effective management.

There are two main types: noninflammatory and inflammatory. Noninflammatory acne includes whiteheads and blackheads, while inflammatory acne presents as red, swollen bumps like papules and pustules. Hormonal changes, stress, and genetics can trigger acne.

Remember, treatment options vary from person to person, so consulting a dermatologist is crucial for personalized care.

This Memorial Day, as we honor the brave souls who gave everything for our freedom, it's important to also educate on melanoma risk for veterans. Depending on the environment and role of soldiers, they can be at a higher risk for advanced stage melanoma. This risk is a result of sun exposure, geographical deployments, occupational hazards, lack of sun protection resources, and delayed or limited access to healthcare. If you or a loved one is actively serving in the military or a veteran, we encourage you to keep an eye on skin changes and be seen annually for a skin cancer exam.

Rare Fact: Melanoma can develop in the eyes. 👁️ Yes, you read that right! Ocular melanoma is a rare but serious form of eye cancer that can affect the iris, retina, or other parts of the eye. Regular eye exams can help detect signs of ocular melanoma early.

BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

-

Talk to your doctor about BOTOX® Cosmetic and whether it’s right for you. There are risks with this product—the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. Alert your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems or muscle weakness can be a sign of a life-threatening condition. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities. Patients with these conditions before injection are at the highest risk. Swallowing problems may last for several months. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection-site pain, fatigue and headache. Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms, and dizziness. Don’t receive BOTOX® Cosmetic if there’s a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions (including ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome), and medications, including botulinum toxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects.
